INN is seeking a Per Diem Registered Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist (REEGT) in Des Moines, IA. Minimum of 12 months experience in the field of Neurodiagnostics is required; graduate of a CAAHEP accredited program highly desirable.


Schedule:

Per Diem. Estimated every other weekend (days) for a total of approximately 16-20 hours every two weeks.

· Day shift

· Rotating weekends


General Summary

Under the direction of the Neurodiagnostic Supervisor/Clinical Instructor, the Neurodiagnostic Technologist provides findings, results, and a descriptive analysis according to INN policies and procedures of routine and STAT EEG, as well as AEEG and cEEG studies. This position includes marking, clipping, and pruning studies, archiving data, and providing a descriptive analysis per company and hospital policy and procedures. The onsite R. EEG T. will also perform electrode maintenance, complete daily charging of studies, facilitate delivery of reports as appropriate, assist in training of Neurodiagnostic Assistants, and perform other duties as assigned.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities


1. Neurodiagnostic Equipment

  • Works independently to perform neurodiagnostic hookup, calibrates acquisition machine, evaluates and adjusts equipment, and optimizes recording parameters to acquire relevant data and information.
  • Implements appropriate troubleshooting methods, such as adjusting sensitivity and filters, to assure accurate recording of information.
  • Keeps onsite equipment clean and free from environmental hazards, and in proper working order, reporting malfunctions to the Department Supervisor and facility IT Department.

2. Neurodiagnostic Procedures

  • Reviews the patient’s medical history and medications received to understand the impact upon the EEG/EP data and integrates this information appropriately into their ongoing analysis of the EEG/EP waveforms.
  • During testing, interacts with hospital staff and Reading Neurologist to provide interpretive data regarding patient’s neurological status.
  • Is highly skilled in EEG/EP pattern recognition and can provide a technical description/descriptive analysis to the Reading Neurologist.
  • Distinguishes between and labels physiological and non-physiological artifacts.
  • Recognizes and marks clinical and subclinical activity.
  • Identifies and labels normal patterns, normal variants, abnormal patterns, seizure activity.
  • Uses standardized ACNS terminology when creating a technical description
  • Understands medical and pharmacological/anesthetic conditions that influence the study.
  • Exercises independent judgement in determining when brainwave patterns require the notification of the on-call reading physician.
  • Aids the Neurodiagnostic Assistant to ensure future hook-ups are high quality.
  • During completion of neurodiagnostic studies, NDT: Verifies recording and electrode integrity, Displays most appropriate  montage, Documents all stimulation performed, Identifies and documents  artifact reduction techniques

3. Documentation

  • Inputs patient information to create database file (demographic information and descriptive data) for neurodiagnostic patients
  • Accurately documents during each patient timeout process.
  • Documents most recent neuro assessment observed, and clinical changes as observed
  • Notates any skin breakdown, according to INN and facility policy
  • Notates alternative electrode placements, according to INN and facility policy

4. Communication

  • Communicates and interacts professionally with medical staff, patients, visitors, and other hospital employees
  • Coordinates performance improvement and quality  assurance measures by participating in monthly staff meetings and  Educational opportunities within the department and by attending local, regional, and/or national conferences
  • Ensures timely communication and response to email and cell phone
  • Participates in conference meetings and video calls as requested by INN leadership or Facility leadership

5. Administrative duties

  • Assists in maintenance of supply inventory and creation of EEG bundle packs
  • Relays supply inventory levels as appropriate to Department Supervisor
  • Performs administrative project work as assigned
  • Assists the INN leadership through training and orientation of newly hired employees

Requirements

  

Technical Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathologic processes, and aseptic techniques
  • Knowledge of electrophysiological equipment used in performing tests on patients along with correct procedures followed in  Conducting tests and examinations
  • Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to  interact with medical staff, patients, visitors, and other hospital  employees
  • Displays vigilance in infection control protocol including hand hygiene, aseptic and sterile technique, and low-level disinfection procedures
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time, while concentrating on monitoring computer screen images
  • Knowledgeable in neuroanatomy relevant to neurodiagnostic procedures
  • Comprehends accepted abbreviations used in an ICU/cEEG and EMU settings
  • Stays abreast of updates in ACNS Guidelines and applies changes, as appropriate per protocol
  • Demonstrates competency in operating neurodiagnostic equipment and troubleshooting as necessary
  • Ability to work quickly and is proficient when stressful conditions arise
  • Ability to visually evaluate normal and abnormal adult and pediatric waveforms
  • Apply basic computer knowledge and data entry skills
  • Understands networking and is sufficient in basic troubleshooting
  • Ability to listen to directions, take orders orally and perform a repeat-back procedure
  • Knowledge to identify common seizure types/epilepsy syndromes and their EEG correlate

Physical Skills and Working Conditions

  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials with rare likelihood of harm if established health precautions are followed
  • Use of personal protective equipment such as gloves, masks, and face shields
  • Work requires lifting and carrying of up to 50 lbs. and frequent pushing and pulling of up to 20 lbs. including carrying of  supplies
  • Work requires frequent walking, bending, squatting, sitting, and kneeling
  • Work requires occasional twisting and turning and occasional reaching over the shoulders
  • Work requires occasional need to get into awkward positions to reach cramped workspaces
  • Work requires manual dexterity including but not limited to placing and securing electrodes, keyboarding and other manual  tasks
  • Work requires the use of computers for extended periods of time while concentrating on monitoring screen images and typing
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions due to sudden changes in clinical condition

Other Position Expectations & Responsibilities

  • Maintains availability for neurodiagnostic studies during normal working hours
  • Variable work schedule that may change, dependent upon business needs and adaptation to anticipated or unanticipated coworker time off. Reliability is of upmost importance
  • Required to maintain focus and clinical judgement at all times during procedures.
  • Participate in conference calls, grand rounds and team meetings as requested by team or manager
  • Maintains professional behavior at all times with patients, customers, co-workers, and points of contact that occur in this field
  • Participates in performance improvement and quality assurance projects as requested
  • Handles ePHI and PHI in a HIPAA compliant manner

Education and Experience

  • R. EEG T credential (Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist) is required
  • 12 months or more experience in the Neurodiagnostics field, including experience in an ICU setting is required
  • Graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited Neurodiagnostic Technologist (NDT) Program, or an Associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university is desired
  • Experience in performing adult and pediatric/neonatal neurodiagnostic recordings is preferred
  • Experience with and knowledge of multiple vendor equipment types is preferred
