Overview
Position Summary
The Sheet Metal Production Supervisor oversees the day-to-day production operations of the sheet metal department, including the direct management of sheet metal leads and production employees. Reporting to the Senior Manufacturing Manager, this role is responsible for ensuring sheet metal operations adhere to scheduling requirements, estimated completions, and fluctuating daily priorities in a fast paced, multi-disciplined aerospace component manufacturing facility while maintaining the highest levels of quality and safety.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Directly manages sheet metal department leads and production employees and conducts their performance evaluations.
- Serves as the primary liaison between the Senior Manufacturing Manager, the sheet metal shop floor, and internal support teams; ensuring timely resolution of information requests, quality concerns, production priorities, and delivery performance issues within the sheet metal department.
- Processes and reviews sheet metal department employee timecards on a daily basis to ensure accuracy and timely submission.
- Monitors, coordinates, and reports sheet metal staffing levels and overtime to the Senior Manufacturing Manager to ensure operational coverage.
- Identifies additional staffing needs for the sheet metal department, interviews new-hire candidates, and onboards new employees as needed.
- Monitors and maintains the sheet metal production schedule, status notes, queue-day tracking, and late-to-need (LTN) metrics.
- Ensures sheet metal production schedules are followed and estimated completion dates (ECDs) are accurately communicated and maintained.
- Monitors sheet metal department key performance indicators (KPIs) and prepares performance reports for the Senior Manufacturing Manager.
- Coordinates with the Machining Manufacturing Manager on shared work, handoffs, and priorities between departments.
- Participates in meetings as required to support operational objectives and departmental communication.
- Completes Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations on sheet metal non-conformances and implements corrective actions as necessary.
- Implements lean manufacturing initiatives within the sheet metal department to maximize productivity and operational efficiency.
- Ensures the sheet metal department has the necessary tools, equipment, materials, and resources required to perform jobs effectively.
- Ensures compliance with all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements within the sheet metal department, promoting a safe work environment.
- Always demonstrates professionalism and ethical business conduct, including during business operations, company events, meetings, audits, and off-site engagements.
- Maintains professional and effective communication with internal and external customers, employees, peers, and company leadership.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Degree in manufacturing or business management strongly preferred.
Experience
- 7+ years of experience in sheet metal forming operations
- 3+ years of experience in operational supervision or management
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage sheet metal manufacturing operations and multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
- MRP/ERP experience preferred.
- Experience with aerospace component manufacturing.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to use a computer and other office equipment.
Working Conditions
- This position is based in a manufacturing environment where the use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory. Employees may be exposed to moderate to high noise levels and other typical manufacturing conditions.
