Over the last decade, we set out to be the world's greatest dialysis company, and over the next decade, we're poised to build the greatest healthcare community the world has ever seen. When you join the DaVita Village, you're joining a winning team. Through our commitment to training, growth, and quality, we consistently achieve superior clinical outcomes while giving teammates the opportunity to excel in an award-winning environment that enables them to thrive both professionally and personally.

As the Senior Director, Clinical Services (SDCS) for the APEX Operating Group, you will serve as the chief clinical strategist and nursing leader across APEX's expansive network of approximately 350 dialysis clinics and operating divisions (including Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Tennessee and APEX Hospital Services).

Position Summary

The Senior Director, Clinical Services is responsible for setting the operating group's clinical strategy, driving superior clinical quality outcomes and patient safety, and overseeing clinical education and nursing leadership. This role works in close strategic partnership with the Group Vice President (GVP) and the Senior Director of People Services (SDPS) to elevate the strength, retention, and excellence of APEX clinical teams.

The SDCS actively shapes the Group's clinical landscape, identifies trends and outlier opportunities across divisions, partners with Division Clinical Services leaders, builds strong collaborative relationships with Medical Directors and external clinical leaders, and serves as a vital strategic link to National Clinical Leadership (Atlas).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Sets Clinical Strategy for APEX Group

  • Lead the Group’s clinical landscape and strategic alignment for outcomes, quality, and safety in close partnership with the APEX Group Vice President (GVP) and Divisional Vice Presidents (DVPs).
  • Identify and surface key drivers impacting patient time on therapy, treatment adherence, and quality benchmarks; solve complex clinical challenges and eliminate operational barriers to ensure seamless execution.
  • Drive targeted action planning and process execution for opportunity areas and outlier support in direct partnership with operational and clinical leadership.
  • Analyze and report on group and division clinical outcome trends to executive leadership, formulating sustainable interventions to drive top-tier clinical performance.

Safety Response & Regulatory Readiness

  • Drive direct accountability across all APEX divisions for core safety responsibilities, including timely completion and oversight of Safety Snapshots.
  • Provide executive-level, on-site leadership and support during critical safety incidents, Immediate Jeopardy (IJ) surveys, CMS validations, and CLUE surveys across APEX facilities.
  • Partner with regulatory and survey readiness teams to establish proactive quality systems that sustain survey readiness across all operating centers.

Coaching, Talent Management & Clinical Leadership

  • Provide strategic coaching, mentorship, and support to Directors of Clinical Services (DCS) and Managers of Clinical Services (MCS) across APEX divisions, addressing operational friction and leadership development needs.
  • Lead regular talent reviews, succession planning, and intentional development pathways to foster top clinical and nursing talent within APEX.
  • Engage directly with each Division Clinical Services team quarterly to evaluate culture, meet with division leadership, and support local DCS/MCS execution.

Driving Clinical Outlier Support

  • Orchestrate and prioritize focused clinical interventions across the APEX divisions, supporting DVPs and DCSs in aligning clinical resources where they will have the highest patient impact.
  • Partner with the APEX Business Strategy, Biomedical, and People Services teams to ensure holistic operational support for underperforming centers.

National Clinical Strategy Support

  • Serve as the strategic field partner representing APEX within the National Senior Director of Clinical Services cohort, delivering crucial field insights to Atlas clinical leadership.
  • Act as an influential clinical voice in national forums, steering committees, and clinical governance teams to help shape enterprise-wide policies, educational frameworks, and clinician-enabling tools (such as CWOW).
  • Perform other strategic and operational duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or a related clinical field.
  • Minimum of 6–8 years of experience in multi-site clinical services management.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years total clinical experience, including at least 4 years in a progressive executive/senior clinical leadership role.
  • Proven track record of driving clinical quality improvement, survey readiness, and regulatory compliance across large multi-site healthcare operations.
  • Specialized experience designing and implementing evidence-based clinical policies, protocols, and standard operating procedures.
  • Demonstrated executive presence, strategic thinking, and strong interpersonal and persuasive communication skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills and proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and electronic medical record systems.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN), Healthcare Administration (MHA), or Business Administration (MBA).
  • Multi-site clinical leadership experience within nephrology, dialysis (In-Center Hemodialysis, Home Modalities, and Hospital/Acute Services), or chronic disease management.
  • Advanced certification in healthcare quality or patient safety (e.g., CPHQ, CPPS).

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

Required:

  • Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice/residence (with multi-state compact licensure preferred) and no history of Board of Nursing disciplinary actions.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and vehicle insurance in the state of residence.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the APEX territory as business and survey support require.

Preferred:

  • Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN), Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN), Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT), or BONENT certification.
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or similar clinical quality credential.
