Description

Join us in shaping Seattle’s streets!

At the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), we don’t just move people—we connect communities, build safer streets, and create a more sustainable city.

With a bold vision for the future, we’re tackling big challenges: making travel safer, cutting carbon emissions, and ensuring reliable, affordable transportation for everyone—no matter who they are or where they live.

Seattle is growing fast, and we’re growing with it. Thanks to a historic voter-approved $1.55 billion investment in transportation in 2024, we’re building sidewalks, fixing bridges, and improving transit connections to keep our city moving.

We’re a team of problem solvers, planners, engineers, communicators, and field crews—bringing purpose-driven work to life. Now, we need passionate, innovative talent like you. Let’s build a Seattle that works for everyone—together!

SDOT’s Street Use Division’s Interagency Program is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer Supervisor to provide staff supervision, technical leadership, and project/program management for complex transportation projects delivered in partnership with other public agencies. This position will supervise and develop professional staff while also serving as a senior technical and project lead across the Interagency portfolio.

The position works closely with the Interagency Program Manager, SDOT teams, other City departments, and external agency partners to establish priorities, resolve complex technical and project-delivery issues, and support projects through planning, design, construction, asset handoff, and closeout.

  • Lead Complex Interagency Projects: Lead and coordinate complex transportation projects delivered in partnership with other public agencies through planning, design, construction, asset handoff, and closeout.
  • Provide Technical Leadership: Provide senior engineering review and technical guidance and coordinate resolution of complex multidisciplinary issues involving design, construction, utilities, right-of-way, permitting, constructability, City standards, and long-term asset responsibilities.
  • Manage Project Delivery: Oversee scopes, schedules, budgets, risks, consultant and contractor coordination, construction issues, change management, documentation, agreements, and closeout activities.
  • Coordinate and Resolve Issues: Work across SDOT, City departments, consultants, contractors, asset owners, and partner agencies to clarify responsibilities, reconcile competing requirements, develop solutions, and elevate matters requiring management decisions.
  • Build Interagency Partnerships: Represent SDOT in technical, project, and management-level discussions and build effective working relationships with external agencies and internal stakeholders.
  • Support Program Leadership: Work closely with the Interagency Program Manager on portfolio priorities, workload and resource planning, management briefings, and program improvement; independently advance assigned work and provide leadership across the portfolio as needed.
  • Supervise and Develop Staff: Supervise professional engineering and project-management staff; assign and review work, establish priorities, manage workloads, provide coaching and technical guidance, evaluate performance, and support employee development.
