Job Description

As an NCE engineer, you will join a talented team in a small-business environment where analytical modeling and hands-on testing are equally valued. You will assess and diagnose challenging noise and vibration problems, develop practical solutions, and apply concepts from architectural and environmental acoustics and structural vibration.

Responsibilities:

  • In this role, you will work under the guidance of experienced engineers to understand client needs and apply appropriate analysis and testing methods to a variety of acoustic challenges.
  • You will contribute to model-based assessments, field testing, data analysis, technical reports, and project coordination while developing your technical and client communication skills.
  • You will report to the Landside Acoustics Group Lead and receive mentorship through a collaborative learning environment that supports your professional growth.
  • The position may also include opportunities to attend industry trade shows and events and support the growth of NCE's landside business portfolio.

Successful NCE Employees:

  • Are eager to perform acoustic design assessments, mitigation strategy development, and testing.
  • Strive for excellence.
  • Demonstrate a mutual respect for coworkers in a culture of collaboration, integrity, and innovation.
  • Are willing to take on our clients' problems as our own, become the clients' advocate, and cultivate long-term client relationships.
  • Demonstrate excellent written, verbal, and graphical communication.
  • Demonstrate a passion for noise and vibration control.
  • Are motivated to identify and pursue internal and external professional growth opportunities, including areas outside their specific discipline.

Education:

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Acoustics, or a related field, preferably with coursework or project experience in acoustics and/or vibrations. Candidates completing their degree in the current academic year are encouraged to apply.

Requirements:

  • Foundational understanding of acoustic analysis and noise-control principles through coursework or project experience.
  • Familiarity with acoustic modeling tools such as Cadna, SoundPlan, and Odeon are desired.
  • Familiarity with the use of sound level meters and data processing methods using Matlab, Python, or similar.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an interest in developing positive client relationships.
  • Ability to organize assigned work, collaborate with a project team, and manage priorities with guidance.
  • Interest in field testing and a willingness to learn acoustic measurement methods for diagnostics and compliance.
  • Experience with engineering, acoustic, and/or computational modeling through coursework, research, internships, or personal projects is preferred.
  • Prior full-time acoustic consulting experience is not required though relevant internships, co-op assignments, research, laboratory work, or academic projects are valued.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office software; familiarity with technical computing or data-analysis tools is a plus.
  • NCE encourages forward thinking and the identification of new approaches to data collection and analysis. Training and mentorship will be provided. Travel and fieldwork are required. Some project assignments may require a valid driver's license and current passport.
  • Based on government project restrictions, applicants must be a US Citizen to comply with requirements.
