Description

Who we are looking for

The ETF Portfolio Analytics Director, Vice President, is part of the Global ETF Research team. The role is responsible for developing and delivering customized portfolio analytics that help clients understand how portfolios are constructed, where vulnerabilities may be present, and how different investment solutions can support specific portfolio objectives.

The position combines portfolio diagnostics, asset allocation research, analytical tool development, and client-specific investment analysis. It covers both proprietary and non-proprietary funds and evaluates products according to the role they may play within a broader portfolio.

The role has a specific focus on:

·         Customized portfolio analytics and portfolio construction insights,

·         Strategic and tactical asset allocation analysis across asset classes, regions, factors, and investment styles,

·         Assessment of portfolio vulnerabilities, including concentration, unintended exposures, diversification gaps, drawdown sensitivity, liquidity considerations, and other sources of risk,

·         Evaluation of how proprietary and non-proprietary funds may serve different portfolio roles, such as core exposure, diversification, risk mitigation, income, liquidity management, or targeted return enhancement,

·         Development and maintenance of scalable analytical tools, methodologies, and client-ready portfolio diagnostics,

·         Leadership, quality oversight, and development of junior team members.

As an ETF Portfolio Analytics Director, you will work closely with ETF specialists, investment strategists, sales teams, and other stakeholders across the State Street Investment Management organization. You will translate complex portfolio findings into clear, commercially relevant insights and collaborate with marketing, product, and investment teams to support client engagement and business priorities.

The successful candidate will combine strong investment judgment with quantitative and communication skills. They will be able to move from portfolio-level diagnosis to practical asset allocation considerations, explain the interaction between holdings and exposures, and identify how individual funds can contribute to a coherent portfolio solution.

Why this role is important to us

The team you will join is part of State Street Investment Management, one of the world's largest asset managers, serving governments, institutions, and financial advisors globally. With more than four decades of experience and trillions of dollars in assets under management, we offer a broad range of investment solutions across asset classes, risk profiles, regions, and investment styles. As pioneers in index investing and ETFs, we continue to develop new ways to help investors build portfolios.

Clients increasingly need analysis that goes beyond selecting an individual fund. They need to understand how exposures interact at the portfolio level, whether diversification is effective, where risk may be concentrated, and which implementation choices are most appropriate for their objectives and constraints. High-quality portfolio analytics can turn fund-level data into actionable portfolio construction insights and is an important capability supporting the growth of our ETF business.

Join us if you are ready to make an immediate impact by helping clients identify portfolio vulnerabilities, evaluate asset allocation choices, and use investment products more effectively within complete portfolios.

What you will be responsible for

Customized portfolio analytics and portfolio diagnostics:

·         Lead the design and delivery of customized analyses for client portfolios, model portfolios, and strategic sales opportunities,

·         Assess portfolio structure across asset classes, regions, sectors, factors, currencies, investment styles, and underlying holdings,

·         Identify potential vulnerabilities, including concentration risk, overlapping exposures, unintended factor tilts, diversification gaps, drawdown sensitivity, liquidity constraints, and dependence on individual market outcomes,

·         Apply scenario analysis, stress testing, risk decomposition, performance attribution, correlation analysis, and other relevant methods to explain portfolio behavior,

·         Translate analytical findings into clear observations, trade-offs, and implementation considerations for clients and internal stakeholders,

·         Produce the Portfolio Insights and Analysis output, providing an in-depth assessment of portfolio construction, areas of weakness, potential risk, and opportunities to improve portfolio resilience.

Asset allocation and portfolio construction strategies:

·         Evaluate strategic and tactical asset allocation approaches in the context of client objectives, investment horizons, risk tolerances, liquidity needs, and implementation constraints,

·         Analyze how changes in asset allocation may affect portfolio risk, return drivers, diversification, and sensitivity to market scenarios,

·         Develop analytical frameworks that connect macroeconomic and market views with portfolio exposures and possible implementation choices,

·         Assess the role of different building blocks within a total portfolio, including core beta, active, factor, fixed income, liquidity, income, alternatives, and risk-management exposures,

·         Support the development of portfolio construction methodologies, model-based analyses, and repeatable frameworks for common client use cases.

Fund roles and implementation analysis:

·         Evaluate both State Street and third-party funds according to their potential function within a portfolio,

·         Analyze how different funds may provide core exposure, diversification, downside mitigation, income, liquidity, inflation sensitivity, duration management, factor exposure, or targeted growth opportunities,

·         Assess implementation trade-offs using holdings, returns, risk, liquidity, portfolio fit, and other relevant characteristics,

·         Use competitive and market analysis selectively to frame available implementation choices and explain material differences between approaches,

·         Provide data and analysis for client requests, including holdings, return streams, portfolio characteristics, risk measures, exposure analysis, and other relevant outputs.

Analytical tool and methodology development:

·         Maintain and enhance existing portfolio analytics tools using in-house capabilities and third-party data or technology platforms,

·         Develop scalable tools that support both repeatable high-volume analysis and detailed bespoke work for significant commercial opportunities,

·         Create robust methodologies for portfolio diagnostics, vulnerability assessment, asset allocation analysis, fund-role classification, and implementation comparison,

·         Improve workflow efficiency, data quality, methodological consistency, and the clarity of client-ready outputs,

·         Evaluate relevant external analytical capabilities where they can strengthen portfolio analysis or improve the client experience.

Commercial and stakeholder support:

·         Partner with sales, ETF specialists, and investment strategists to understand client needs and define the most relevant analytical approach,

·         Design targeted portfolio analyses that support specific client conversations and commercial opportunities,

·         Serve as a subject matter expert for portfolio analytics, portfolio construction, asset allocation, and ETF-related RFPs and DDQs,

·         Present complex findings in a concise and accessible way for technical and non-technical audiences,

·         Collaborate with product, marketing, investment, and technology teams to align analytical capabilities with client needs and business priorities.

Leadership and quality oversight:

·         Train and develop junior team members in portfolio analytics, investment interpretation, tool usage, and communication of findings,

·         Allocate and prioritize work across the team, balancing recurring deliverables with bespoke client opportunities,

·         Review analytical outputs for methodological soundness, accuracy, relevance, and claritt,

·         Ensure deliverables are completed accurately and on time,

·         Promote consistent analytical standards, documentation, and effective knowledge sharing.

What we value

These skills will help you succeed in this role:

·         Excellent quantitative, portfolio analysis, and investment interpretation skills,

·         Strong understanding of portfolio construction, asset allocation, diversification, risk decomposition, scenario analysis, and performance drivers,

·         Ability to identify portfolio vulnerabilities and distinguish material risks from less decision-relevant observations,

·         Ability to evaluate funds as portfolio building blocks and explain how different exposures may serve different investor objectives,

·         Experience designing analytical frameworks, automating processes, and developing scalable tools,

·         Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy when working under pressure,

·         Ability to prioritize work, exercise sound judgment, and meet tight deadlines,

·         Ability to communicate technical analysis clearly in writing, presentations, and client discussions,

·         Good understanding of the global ETF and fund landscape, investment implementation choices, and relevant distribution channels,

·         Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; experience extracting meaningful insights from large and complex data sets is essential,

·         Ability to guide less experienced team members and develop their analytical skills,

·         Collaborative, self-motivated, intellectually curious, and comfortable working independently,

Education and preferred qualifications

·         Bachelor's degree or equivalent; an advanced degree or relevant professional qualification is beneficial,

·         10+ years of experience in a financial institution or finance-related industry, with substantial exposure to portfolio analytics, asset allocation, investment research, or portfolio construction,

·         Strong written and spoken English.

Other beneficial skills

·         Working knowledge of Bloomberg, Morningstar, FactSet, or comparable investment analytics and data platforms,

·         Experience with ETFs, mutual funds, model portfolios, multi-asset portfolios, or institutional portfolio analysis,

·         Programming or data-handling skills relevant to scalable analytics,

·         Experience developing analytical solutions using AI or advanced automation tools,

·         Knowledge of investment risk, market structure, liquidity, and portfolio implementation considerations,

·         Awareness of current market and economic issues and their potential portfolio implications.
