Description
Senior Business Analyst, Airside
Role Overview
Our client is seeking a Senior Business Analyst to support its Airside technology portfolio. Working with the Product Manager, Technology Delivery Manager, operational teams and technology partners, the Business Analyst will translate operational needs into clear product requirements and support initiatives from discovery through implementation.
The role spans business processes, software, hardware, sensing technologies, connected devices, data and automation within a complex physical operating environment. It requires someone who can work directly with operational users and technical specialists to understand how solutions perform in practice, identify constraints and support operational adoption.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Discovery and Analysis
- Engage frontline users, operational leaders and subject matter experts to understand workflows, pain points, business rules and desired outcomes.
- Facilitate discovery sessions and document current-state and future-state processes, including exceptions, operational handoffs and failure scenarios.
- Distinguish business problems and user needs from proposed solutions. Identify assumptions, dependencies and opportunities to improve processes without introducing unnecessary technology.
- Assess the impact of proposed changes on users, operational procedures, systems and support teams.
- Support discovery for sensing, connected-device, automation and autonomous-system initiatives, working with operational teams, engineering specialists and vendors.
Product Requirements and Delivery Support
- Partner with the Product Manager to develop and maintain the Product Requirements Document (PRD), contributing user needs, operational workflows, business rules, functional and non-functional requirements, dependencies and acceptance criteria.
- Support the Product Manager in defining scope, evaluating alternatives and identifying open questions that require further discovery or decision-making.
- Translate agreed product requirements into detailed process maps, user stories and supporting analysis for delivery and testing.
- Capture functional and non-functional requirements covering availability, response times, usability, connectivity, interoperability, security and environmental constraints, including sensor coverage, detection accuracy and data timeliness where relevant.
- Define operational workflows covering human oversight, alerts, exceptions, manual intervention and fallback procedures when technology is unavailable or performs outside expected conditions.
- Work with architecture, cybersecurity, infrastructure, data teams and vendors to clarify integration needs, solution constraints and technical dependencies.
- Support backlog refinement and prioritization by clarifying requirements, operational impacts and dependencies.
- Maintain traceability between the PRD, delivery requirements and test coverage, keeping documentation current as decisions and scope evolve.
Testing and Operational Readiness
- Work with QA and operational stakeholders to define test scenarios and support user acceptance testing, defect clarification and business validation.
- Ensure test coverage includes operational exceptions, failure scenarios and end-to-end workflows, not just individual system functions.
- Support implementation readiness, training requirements, operational handover and transition to support.
- Help define how intended operational outcomes will be validated following implementation.
- Contribute to feasibility studies and proofs of concept by documenting assumptions, defining field-test scenarios and success criteria, and assessing results against operational needs.
- Translate findings from field observations, demonstrations and trials into PRD updates, delivery requirements and recommendations on next steps.
Portfolio Continuity and Knowledge Transfer
- Take over active initiatives, establish the status of existing requirements and documentation, and identify outstanding decisions, risks and next steps.
- Coordinate knowledge transfer across team members, vendors and operational stakeholders, maintaining continuity throughout delivery and transition to support.
- Manage analysis activities across multiple initiatives, making capacity constraints and competing priorities visible.
Required Experience and Capabilities
- Demonstrated senior-level business analysis experience supporting technology-enabled operational change.
- Experience working across business and technical teams in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
- Strong discovery, facilitation, process mapping, requirements analysis and stakeholder communication skills.
- Experience contributing to PRDs or equivalent product requirements documentation, including user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Experience analyzing technology solutions that combine software, hardware, data and physical operations, including requirements for integration, reliability, exception handling and operational support.
- Experience defining functional and non-functional requirements and supporting testing, implementation and operational handover.
- Ability to work independently across several initiatives and produce clear, practical documentation proportionate to the work.
- Ability to challenge assumptions constructively, resolve ambiguity and distinguish essential requirements from preferences.
- Willingness to engage directly with users in the operating environment rather than relying solely on workshops and documentation.
Preferred Experience
- Airport, aviation, transportation, logistics, or another complex 24/7 operational environment.
- Experience with sensing technologies, IoT/connected devices, operational technology, automation, or autonomous systems.
- Exposure to computer vision, video analytics, positioning and tracking, telemetry, or remote monitoring.
- Experience defining human-in-the-loop workflows and the operational changes required to introduce automation.
- Exposure to frontline operational tools, dispatch, inspections, automation, or operational reporting.
- Experience with vendor-delivered solutions, feasibility studies, field trials, and proofs of concept in Agile and project-based delivery environments.
- Experience working alongside product management and multidisciplinary technology delivery teams.
