Job Title:
Support Engineer
Job Purpose:
Our client is seeking an End User Computing (EUC) Support Engineer for a 12-month contract. This role is based at the head office of Commercial Cold Holdings (CCH) in Paarden Eiland, Cape Town, and reports directly to the Service Delivery Manager: IT Technical Services.
Key Responsibilities:
- 2nd Line & VIP End-User Support
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues across:
- Windows desktops and laptops
- Rugged handheld scanner devices used in warehouse operations
- Rugged tablet devices used in logistics/cold-chain workflows
- Wireless networks (Wi-Fi connectivity, authentication, roaming, and performance; liaising with network providers where required)
- Printers (including shared/network printers and label printers where applicable)
- VoIP telephones (setup, user moves/changes, and call-quality troubleshooting; coordinating with service providers)
- Endpoint Provisioning & Management
- Manage and provision devices using Microsoft Intune
- Warehousing / Cold-Chain Operational Support
- Provide reliable, practical support in operational environments where uptime is critical:
- Apply shift-friendly troubleshooting approaches with rapid service restoration
- Account for challenges such as low temperatures, device wear-and-tear, scanning/peripheral reliability, and Wi-Fi coverage
- Conduct on-site support (minimum 1 day per week), including:
- Break/fix support, device swaps, stock checks
- Printer and scanner support
- End-user enablement at operational sites
- Vendor & Outsourced Provider Coordination
- Collaborate with third-party providers responsible for:
- 1st line EUC/service desk support
- Azure cloud-hosted services
- LAN networking
- Internet connectivity
- WAN
- Fortigate firewalls
- SD-WAN
Skills & Experience (Essential):
- 3–5 years’ experience in EUC/Desktop/IT Support with strong 2nd line support capability
- Proven hands-on experience with:
- Windows desktops and laptops
- Rugged handheld scanners and tablet devices (or similar operational endpoints)
- Printers in multi-site environments (including drivers, queues, and network printing)
- Wi-Fi troubleshooting (signal strength, authentication, roaming, and basic diagnostics)
- VoIP endpoint support (setup, first-line troubleshooting, and escalation management)
- Experience with Microsoft Intune (device enrolment, policy management, profiles, and application deployment)
- Ability to work effectively with outsourced 1st line teams and multiple third-party vendors
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage operational teams, VIP stakeholders, and technical providers
- Proactive, ownership-driven mindset with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple issues effectively under pressure
