Job Family Group:

Ethics & Compliance Group

Job Description:

Our purpose is to deliver energy to the world, today and tomorrow. For over 100 years, bp has focused on discovering, developing, and producing oil and gas in the nations where we operate. We are one of the few companies globally that can provide governments and customers with an integrated energy offering. Delivering our strategy sustainably is fundamental to achieving our ambition to be a net zero company by 2050 or sooner.

We are hiring Compliance Director, RPTE&A and Supply – Supply, Trading & Shipping!

The role is within bp’s Refining and Products Trading business in Europe & Africa and globally for Supply activities. This role is accountable for providing senior Ethics & Compliance (E&C) leadership across RPTE&A and Supply, enabling safe, compliant commercial activity while ensuring bp maintains effective, independent and risk-based oversight across complex trading, shipping and regulatory environments.

The role is based in London.

Key Accountabilities:

Lead and oversee the E&C ST&S program for RPTE&A and Supply (including policies, procedures and trainings, consistent with legal, regulatory and bp standards including the bp Code of Conduct, and GTGs) to prevent, detect and manage non-compliance across RPTE&A and/or Supply, while continually assessing its effectiveness, independence and alignment with bp’s governance framework and emerging risks.

Maintain oversight of the surveillance and monitoring program in RPTE&A and assess the adequacy of compliance processes and controls. Program includes monitoring of transactions and business communications for issues related to anti-market manipulation, anti-bribery and corruption, competition and anti-trust, international trade sanctions and anti-money laundering, and reviews such as regulator-required assessments, trading bench reviews and HRA reviews.

Exhibit strong leadership on the full range of compliance matters across RPTE&A and Supply, including Speak Up, integrity and accountability.

Be a respected and fully participating member of the leadership team of the VP E&C ST&S and play an active role in setting the direction of the function. Work for the success of peers and wider org.

Provide strong leadership to the ST&S RPTE&A LT and Supply LT on E&C matters.

Manage timely investigations of matters and concerns which arise.

Build and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders, including Legal, P&C, F&R, BI, and front office. Influence senior stakeholders sometimes on difficult matters such as disciplinary issues, which involves balancing relationships with maintaining independence and delivering clear messages around compliance standards.

Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of the business activities, personnel, entities and offices relevant to each of Supply and RPTE&A and, including in the case of RPTE&A those activities undertaken outside of RPTE&A which may be booked to RPTE&A’s legal entities.

Develop and maintain a strong understanding of regulatory developments relevant to trading and shipping, and of E&C ST&S policy requirements, particularly in terms of their impact of activities on RPTE&A and Supply.

Maintain responsibility for relationships and work with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, exchanges, trading venues and governmental authorities on compliance matters.

Lead and manage the RPTE&A E&C team and Supply ECL, including performance management and career development. Ensure a strong minimum analytical capability across the E&C team.

Work in close cooperation with the Compliance Director-RPTAP and Compliance Director-RPTA to ensure regional approaches are generally consistent (except where the differences are clearly warranted by circumstances), best practices are adopted across RPT E&C globally and robust support across timezones for the RPT business.

Innovating, re-thinking, and questioning ways of working to drive continuing improvement.

All accountabilities and expectations of an E level leader.

Other duties as assigned. As part of a dynamic and ever-changing business, responsibilities and portfolios may evolve over time.
