Description
The Kindergarten Assistant Teacher supports the lead teacher in creating a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment. This role focuses on helping children grow socially, emotionally, academically, and physically while fostering independence, curiosity, and a love of learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the lead teacher in planning and implementing daily lessons and classroom activities
- Help maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming classroom environment
- Assist with classroom routines, transitions, and behavior guidance using positive strategies
- Support small group and individual learning activities
- Observe and document children’s growth and development as directed by the lead teachers
Assist with supervision during arrival, dismissal, and specials on a daily basis. - Supervise lunch and recess daily
- Help prepare materials and learning centers as directed by the lead teachers
- Model respectful, caring, and developmentally appropriate interactions with children
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with colleagues and families as needed and as directed by the lead teacher
- Follow all school policies, licensing regulations, and safety procedures
- Support Judaic teachers when needed such as during whole group activities; Tefillah, Shabbat, Havdalah and special program rehearsals.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Experience working with young children (early childhood or elementary setting preferred)
- Understanding of child development and age-appropriate practices
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team
Strong communication, flexibility, and organizational skills - Patience, warmth, and enthusiasm for working with young children
- Demonstrates respect, professionalism, and effective communication when working with a team of teachers
- Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully as part of a teaching team
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, and move throughout the day
- Ability to go outside in 20-degree weather and above
- Ability to sit on the floor with students
- Ability to lift to 10 pounds as needed
