Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Field Network Engineer will be part of the IT Infrastructure team. This role is the boots-on-the-ground engine of our multi-site network modernization initiative, covering 32 locations across the country. The ideal candidate thrives on physical installation, site visits, vendor coordination, and hardware refreshes rather than purely remote or architecture-level work. You will partner closely with senior network architects and our IT Director to execute standardization projects that bring every location up to our modern Cisco Meraki baseline.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Site Assessment and Modernization

  • Conduct on-site assessments across legacy and modernized locations to document existing infrastructure and identify gaps.
  • Develop and execute standardization plans to bring all 32 sites to a consistent Cisco Meraki baseline (switches, access points, firewalls).
  • Perform rack-and-stack installation, hardware refresh, and equipment decommissioning during site visits.
  • Coordinate and liaise daily with low-voltage and structured cabling vendors to ensure cabling work meets standards and project timelines.

Network Operations and Support

  • Configure and maintain Cisco Meraki switches, wireless access points, and firewalls following established templates and best practices.
  • Serve as the primary field-level networking contact and point of escalation for site-specific issues.
  • Support SD-WAN connectivity reviews within the existing Meraki and Azure-integrated environment.
  • Troubleshoot Layer 2/3 network issues on-site and remotely, coordinating with senior architects when advanced design decisions are needed.

Vendor and Project Coordination

  • Manage day-to-day relationships with networking and cabling vendors, tracking deliverables and holding partners accountable.
  • Support hardware procurement, asset inventory, and equipment logistics for multi-site refresh projects.
  • Contribute to project scoping, scheduling, and status reporting for infrastructure modernization efforts.
  • Participate in future integration projects tied to company acquisitions (Nevada/Vegas-area expansion anticipated).

Working Conditions:

  • Field-forward role with a home base in Dallas, TX (Columbus, OH considered).
  • Some overtime required as special projects arise.
  • Travel 15% - 30%.
  • Concentrated in the first six months as site assessments and modernization projects ramp up.
  • Travel is project driven rather than a fixed weekly schedule.
  • May spend one to two consecutive weeks at a site to complete a refresh, followed by periods of remote or local work.
  • Able to maintain this schedule through company growth attained by acquisitions.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3 to 8+ years of hands-on networking experience in a multi-site or field-based environment.
  • Proficiency with Cisco switching and routing fundamentals; ability to configure and troubleshoot without reliance on senior architects for day-to-day tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience with physical network infrastructure: rack-and-stack, structured cabling coordination, hardware installation.
  • CCNA certification (or Network+ with equivalent practical experience) is required.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to self-manage travel and project schedules across multiple locations.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel 15 to 30% of the time, including extended site stays of one to two weeks during the first 6 months. Please list the required education, experience, and certifications required to do this role.

Preferred Qualifications:

.

  • Hands-on experience with Cisco Meraki (switches, MR access points, MX firewalls, dashboard management).
  • Familiarity with SD-WAN concepts, particularly within a Meraki or Azure-connected environment.
  • 8 to 10 years of experience with exposure to enterprise multi-site environments.
  • Experience working alongside or managing structured cabling and low-voltage contractors.
  • Exposure to network documentation tools and change management processes.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Analytical problem-solving, Systems thinking, Process optimization.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Able to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Proactive mindset.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with customers, both internal and external.
  • Willingness and ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization.
  • Safety mindset and acceptance of a safety culture.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift/move up to 20 pounds frequently.
  • Must be able to drive and operate a motorized passenger vehicle.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, masks/respirators, reflective safety vests, gloves and safety toe, construction-grade work boots.
  • Must be able to adhere to long periods of standing, walking or sitting.
  • Ability to hear, understand and distinguish speech and/or other sounds to operate phones or other equipment safely.
  • With natural or corrected vision, able to see and focus for close, distance, peripheral vision with normal depth perception.

Additional Information:

Our IT team is lean, transparent, and moving fast. You will work alongside a Director of IT Infrastructure, experienced network architects, and a broader infrastructure team that will handle high-level design decisions, giving you the autonomy to own the physical and operational side of network delivery. We invest in our team through certifications, training, and career development, and we welcome engineers who want to grow as our organization scales toward 3,000 to 4,000 employees.

What Success Looks Like:

First 90 Days

  • Complete site assessments for priority locations and deliver a standardized modernization roadmap.
  • Execute the first wave of hardware refreshes with minimal disruption to site operations.
  • Establish productive working relationships with cabling and network vendors.

6 to 12 Months

  • Drive meaningful progress on bringing legacy sites to the Meraki standard, with measurable reduction in infrastructure inconsistencies.
  • Operate as a trusted field execution partner, requiring minimal day-to-day direction for site work.
  • Begin contributing to network integration planning for new acquisitions.
