Job Description

The department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery has an outstanding opportunity for a temporary Registered Nurse 2 to join our team. This is a full time fixed duration appointment (up to 6 months).

About this Opportunity

Under the direction of the clinic's Registered Nurse 3 and Department Administrative Director, the Registered Nurse 2 will provide care and coordination of services through assessment, diagnosis, planning and implementation and evaluation of safe, therapeutic care, in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) flagship clinic the Northwest Center for Oral and Facial Surgery at our Sandpoint clinic location. Candidate must have strong IV skills, and excellent multi-tasking abilities in a fast-paced clinic.

This position is tasked with ensuring the health and safety of OMS patients throughout the clinic space and assisting with enhancing the overall effectiveness of faculty, residents, dental students, staff, operations, and administration. The RN2 will be an active contributor in strategy meetings with the department leadership, the School of Dentistry Dean's Office, interdepartmental groups, facilities, vendors, and external entities that have associations with OMS.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Interface: 65%

• Prepare medications for procedural sedation
• Assists in admitting patients to the operatory suite
• Assess side effects of treatment and identifies additional health problems that may require medical attention
• Administers moderate sedation using Versed, Ketamine, Fentanyl and Propofol as prescribed by a non-anesthesiologist sedation provider or an anesthesiologist.
• Monitors patients during sedation
• Provides Pre and post procedural care for sedation patients including vital sign monitoring, assessing cognitive skills and alerting attending staff of complications
• Provide post op and follow up instructions
• Collaborates with team members to assure continuity of patient care and to meet patient care needs

Documentation and Medication Management: 25%

• Assumes responsibility for complete documentation of patient records to the administering of sedation. Documents patient information in the EHR
• Counts and stores all moderate sedation medications. Accountable for all controlled substances used for sedation
• Responsible for making sure the equipment is available as needed, ensuring safety and adequate supply. The equipment must be inspected fully at the beginning of each day of use

Training: 10%

• Assists in creating and leading the training/orientation of new staff members
• Creates and leads the development of emergency education drills/training for staff
• May perform other RN related duties within scope of practice

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing AND one year of professional

nursing experience. OR Equivalent education/experience

Licensure and Additional Requirements

• Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Washington.
• Current BLS and ACLS certification (PALS is required within 6 months of hire to work with pediatric patients)
• Excellent skills in IV placement
• Experience with information technology healthcare management systems
• ICU experience or ED with significant exposure to IV sedation preferred.
• Experience in an academic medical center setting preferred.
• Dental experience in a private/public clinic setting preferred.

About the Team

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) at the UW School of Dentistry

specializes in the diagnosis, surgical treatment, and management of diseases associated with the face and jaws such as trauma, infections, disorders, and cancer associated with the face and neck. Our clinics work closely with residents acquiring their OMS certification and the school's General Practice program, giving residents unique learning experiences like extractions, implant placements, and dental anesthesia and sedation in a clinic setting. Our clinic, Northwest Center for Oral and Facial Surgery, is located at 6222 NE 74th St, Building 25, within Warren G. Magnuson Park. Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum:

$86,508.00 annual

Pay Range Maximum:

$146,688.00 annual
