As a Student Intern, you will support OD Free Marin’s Youth Action Team and help with community outreach, education, and youth-led projects. Interns will gain hands-on experience in public health, leadership, communication, and community engagement. This is a great opportunity for students interested in making a positive impact in their community while learning new skills in a supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide basic clerical and program support
- Learn about overdose prevention strategies and public health approaches
- Help create outreach materials, presentations, and social media content (with staff guidance)
- Assist OD Free Marin staff with presentations at schools or community events
- Participate in Youth Action Team meetings, and help design agendas or lead activities (with support)
- Help prepare easy-to-understand educational materials for community use
- Engage with community members at outreach tables or events and share information about OD Free Marin
There are currently four (4) vacant high school student internship positions we are looking to fill. For these internships we are looking for a commitment of at least 5 hours a month for up to 6 months (with a possibility to extend another 6 months, making it a 12-month internship).
These internship positions require attendance at in-person events and meetings throughout the internship period.OUR HIGHLY QUALIFIED CANDIDATE
Our highly qualified candidate is interested in public health, community wellbeing, and making a positive impact in Marin County. No prior experience is required — we are looking for students who are eager to learn, motivated to participate, and comfortable working as part of a supportive team.
Ideal candidates are:
- Reliable, responsible, and able to follow through on commitments
- Interested in learning about overdose prevention and public health strategies
- Comfortable communicating with others in person or in writing
- Organized and able to manage simple tasks with guidance
- Open to new experiences, including public speaking or community outreach
- Respectful, professional, and able to represent OD Free Marin positively in the community
This internship is great for students who want to develop leadership skills, gain real-world experience, and contribute to meaningful public health projects across Marin County.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES
Applicants must be enrolled in a high school academic or vocational curriculum or be within one year of having graduated.
Applicants under 18 years of age must secure a work permit from their high school district before being employed.

Live Scan (Special Requirements): Candidates selected are subject to fingerprinting by the Sheriff's Department and must pass a Department of Justice Live Scan background check prior to appointment.
Disaster Service Workers: All County of Marin employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
