At TC Energy, we are proud to connect the world to the energy it needs. Guided by our values of safety in every step, personal accountability, one team and active learning, we deliver the critical energy that North America and the world rely on while balancing reliability, affordability and sustainability.
The Opportunity
Join the System Design East (SDE) team and help shape the future of TC Energy’s Canadian natural gas pipeline network. We are seeking an intermediate System Design Engineer to conduct hydraulic design and analysis of the Canadian Mainline (ML) and Trans Québec and Maritimes (TQM) integrated natural gas pipeline systems.
In this role, you will support commercial growth opportunities, evaluate system capacity, and develop pipeline and facility solutions that enhance reliability, efficiency, and long-term performance. You'll collaborate with partners across Commercial, Operations, Projects, and Regulatory to deliver data-driven recommendations and support critical planning and investment decisions from concept through execution.
What you'll do
- Conduct hydraulic simulation and analysis of facility solutions for the ML and TQM integrated gas transmission system to support long-term planning and optimization of system capacity to meet dynamic market requirements
- Evaluate alternatives to ensure facilities align with both technical and economic considerations, long-term requirements, and corporate sustainability goals.
- Provide hydraulic input to datasheets, DBMs, drawing packages and develop decision summaries to authorize funding required to progress project development.
- Analyze performance characteristics (head / flow) of compressor units to ensure they meet requirements and recommend changes where necessary.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to optimize capital expansion programs to meet market demands.
- Collaborate with the Asset Planning and System Operations teams to optimize system operation and maintenance programs and conduct hydraulic risk assessments.
- Contribute to the preparation of CER facility applications and support other regulatory applications and initiatives
- Develop strategies for process improvement and innovation through deployment of integrated programming and automation solutions.
- Other duties, as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical are preferred).
- Minimum 4 years of progressive, relevant experience (an alternate combination of education or experience may be considered).
- Registered, or eligible to be registered, as a P. Eng. (Professional Engineer) with APEGA in good standing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Pipeline hydraulic simulation experience (Synergi Gas) and ability to apply this knowledge to develop facility and capacity recommendations
- Self-motivated and strong analytical skills.
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work and contribute within a team environment.
- Knowledge of the ML and TQM integrated gas pipeline systems.
- Business acumen with knowledge of system operations & maintenance, gas markets, pipeline infrastructure and regulatory requirements for facility applications is considered an asset
- Programming (e.g., Python, VBA, PowerBI), AI, and/or data analytics experience.
