Fellow - Stroke

Job Description:

• Support the values and strategic priorities of St Vincent’s Hospital.
• Provide excellence in the delivery of clinical service in the discipline of Stroke.
• Support St Vincent’s Hospital teaching, research and clinical governance programs.

About the Role

The Stroke Fellow will learn and participate in care of people with hyper-acute and acute stroke. They will co-ordinate clinic triaging and attend the Stroke Outpatient Clinic (Friday PM and Tuesday AM. It is expected that the Fellow will participate in recruitment and assessment for patients in Clinical Trials and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including the code stroke simulation program. They will co-ordinate the stroke journal club roster and prepare cases for the stroke mortality and stroke interventional neuroradiology audit meetings.

While not an essential part of the position, the Fellow will have opportunity to and will be encouraged to undertake stroke research and will also have the opportunity to gain some experience in neuro imaging.

This is a 0.50FTE , fixed term position – 01 February 2027 – 06 February 2028

Classifications for this position will range from HM25 - HM30 ($129,048.40 - $177,622.12) pro rata for part-time.

What you will bring:
• Appointees must be legally qualified medical practitioners, registered or registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
• Basic Medical Degree
• Indemnification with a recognised/approved medical defence association

• Enrolment in an accredited Advanced Training program with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (or equivalent physician training program)

• Compliance with RACP CPD program
• Current certification for National Institute of Health Stroke Score (NIHSS), modified Rankin Score (mRS) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)

Clinical Neurosciences is a multidisciplinary unit dedicated to improving the understanding and treatment of neurological disorders. The unit provides a complete clinical and diagnostic service and maintains a strong research focus including epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, stroke, headache, neuromuscular conditions and movement disorders.
