Shift Available: Monday-Friday - 6:30 am to 2:30 pm

Compensation: $29+ per hour

Job Summary

  • Repair and maintain various types of mobile equipment used in the production area of the Valley site.
  • Make recommendations based on their evaluation of a particular piece of equipment being worked on.
  • Perform skilled work and repair of mobile equipment including, but not limited to, forklifts, ATVs, and over-the-read vehicles.
  • May perform brake and differential repairs.
  • Make major repairs and overhauls of equipment as well as performing preventative maintenance on industrial vehicles.
  • Employee also performs general shop housekeeping tasks which can include painting and general cleaning.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Two (2) years of experience in the repair of mobile equipment or a degree from a technical school in a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The ability to be certified in forklift operations.
  • Basic understanding of hydraulics.
  • Proficiency in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of whole numbers, decimal numbers and fractions.
  • Ability to weld and modify equipment.
  • Ability to repair generators, starters, alternators, etc.
  • Ability to perform minor tune-ups of various types of vehicles.
  • The ability to work overtime when required for business needs.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English in order to complete necessary paperwork requirements.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal/written instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and accurately interpret electrical schematics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Additional Qualifications (Required)

  • Experience maintaining industrial equipment.
  • Pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, and low-voltage electrical/electronic troubleshooting.
  • Metal fabrication experience.
  • Experience working with gas, diesel, and propane engines.
  • Ability to work in heights up to 8’.
  • The ability to use e-mail.
  • Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.

Educational Background

Educational background requires reading, writing, adding, subtraction, multiplication and division using both decimals and fractions. The knowledge to accurately fill out simple entries and standardized process forms.

Job Training Skill Development

Two (2) years of on-the-job training is required to become effective in the complete repair of the various types of equipment as a Mobile Mechanic B. 

Decision Making

Must be able to process a troubleshooting method to diagnose various problems as they arise. Incumbent makes decisions relating to repair vs. replacement of parts.  Prioritize work based on production’s needs. Most duties consist of repetitive or routine duties performed on familiar industrial mobile equipment. Employee used considerable judgement and normally works independently on a piece of equipment. The role can present ever-changing problems or even unusual conditions.

Physical Effort

Average weight of objects handled is 30 lbs.  The incumbent needs to be able to work in various positions (i.e., leaning over to work on engines, lying on creepers while working under vehicles, standing by a table and/or work bench while working on parts). Manual dexterity and muscular coordination required for successful manipulation of parts, tools, machines and other equipment.

Mental and Visual Effort

Good coordination of eyes, hands, and feet is required to perform in a safe and efficient manner.  Must have ability to read and comprehend schematics and perform from written and verbal instruction.  Initiative in solving minor problems in everyday activities.  Due to the dynamic nature of tasks to be completed, must be continually alert to ensure task completion and employee safety.

Working Conditions

Mechanics often work in disagreeable conditions, exposed to odors, drafts, heat, wet conditions, dirt, oil and grease.  Many combinations of the above disagreeable conditions depend on the season to the year.  Most disagreeable would be winter, outside starting equipment.  Exposure to outdoor weather elements averages 2 hours per day.
