Job Title:

Senior Accountant

Job Purpose:

Our client is seeking a Senior Accountant to deliver accurate and timely financial reporting, ensure compliance with financial processes, manage supplier and asset-related functions, support effective decision-making through reliable financial insights, and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities & Skills:

Review repairs and maintenance and minor asset allocations for accuracy.
Support the budget preparation process.
Complete all month-end checklist tasks accurately and on time.
Prepare and post monthly journals, including bonus provisions, SBL, SBR, accruals, and ad hoc journals.
Prepare and submit VAT returns to SARS accurately and within required deadlines.
Ensure correct VAT coding in accounts payable and verify capital code allocations.
Respond to VAT audits within SARS deadlines.
Reconcile VAT to Omni monthly and ensure records are balanced.
Prepare and submit SBL payments to SARS within required timelines.
Submit quarterly rebate claims and follow up on outstanding payments.
Collaborate with the Food Quality team regarding recipe changes.
Maintain accurate sugar certificates to ensure SARS compliance.
Reconcile production sheets, invoices, and supplier account balances.
Prepare and load SBOL payments within required deadlines.
Maintain supporting documentation and ensure accurate record keeping.
Distribute proof of payment to relevant stakeholders.
Prepare and balance monthly balance sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts.
Provide audit support and respond to audit queries.
Respond to internal and external audit queries in line with company procedures.
Prepare and maintain SOPs, provide process support, and assist with team training.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date statutory records and submissions.
Update SARS registered details within one week of any changes.
Identify and implement at least one cost-saving or net working capital reduction initiative annually.
Identify and execute at least one process digitisation initiative annually.
Demonstrate and promote company values of Excellence, Integrity, Serve, and Impact.
Adhere to the #24Hour Service Level standard.
Maintain outstanding supplier balances below 1% beyond agreed payment terms.
Enforce supplier credit limits and conduct regular reviews.
Build and maintain professional supplier relationships and negotiate effectively.
Ensure timely processing, accuracy checks, and monthly supplier reconciliations.
Complete asset addition forms and accurately capitalise assets.
Reconcile the Capital Work in Progress ledger.
Process asset additions in Omni and review the general ledger for potential reallocations.
Perform asset existence cycle counts.
Complete disposal forms and accurately derecognise assets.
Process asset disposals in Omni and calculate profit or loss on disposal.
Maintain the Fixed Asset Register (FAR) accurately.
Conduct annual reviews of asset useful lives and residual values.

Qualifications and Experience:

Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (BCom or equivalent).
Completed articles (advantageous).
Minimum 3 years’ accounting experience, with at least 1 year in a senior or supervisory role.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, reconciliations, and month-end processes.
Proficiency in accounting software (OMNI experience advantageous).
Advanced Excel skills.
