Summary of Primary Purpose of the Position 

Summarize in 2 to 4 sentences the primary function and value of the position. 

 

Under limited supervision, the Material Handler 3 works independently and uses advanced skills and independent judgment to plan and build external trailer loads and/or stacks for weld by calculating the best product fit and operating forklift, side-loader, combi-lift or other mobile equipment such as overhead crane and determine applicable lifting device based upon product. The Material Handler 3 also uses a yard spotter truck to position loaded or empty trailers in yard, loading bays, and staging areas. 

 

 

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities * 

In addition to complying with all safety, environmental, quality, and core policies, and contributing to the company’s Zero Harm and Zero Defects commitment, the following briefly describes the 3 to 6 primary activities (not all activities) that are regularly performed, and the approximate percentage of time annually devoted to each (equals 100%).   

Percent 

Plan and build loads of materials and products onto flatbed trailers to ensure safe over-the-road transportation and/or; 

Plan and build loads of materials and products within the weld bays to ensure safe stacking and loading of material 

70% 

Position flatbed trailers for loading of materials and products in yard, loading bays and staging areas and/or;  

Position material in an efficient order for downstream processes 

10% 

Actively participates in continuous improvement and corrective action activities  

10% 

Complete all necessary paperwork and transactions, including scanning requirements 

5% 

Perform housekeeping, 5-S, and other duties as assigned 

5%

Tools Required 

List the tools required to perform the role – e.g. reports that need to be reviewed in order to make decisions, data sets that needs to be understood. 

 

  • Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as outlined in the role specific Job Safety Analysis 

  • Forklift, Combi-lift, Side-loader, Yard Dog, Overhead Crane or other mobile equipment 

  • Computers 

  • Scanners, tablets, printers 

  • Oracle ERP 

  • Hand tools including, but not limited to, nail gun, banding equipment, hammer, saw, etc. 

 

  

 

Education & Experience Qualifications  

List qualifications necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities listed above. 

 

Minimum: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent, or attain ACT WorkKeys Assessment at certified job profile skill level 

  • 1 year of related experience and/or training 

 

 

Preferred: 

  • 3+ years of experience operating mobile equipment to load flatbed trailers for over-the-road transportation  

  • 3+ years of experience in overhead crane operation 

  • Mobile equipment certification and/or CDL license
