Summary:
The Associate Director of DevOps will be responsible for setting and executing engineering strategy across DevOps, Mobile Engineering, and QA. You will oversee modernizing legacy systems, lead cross-functional teams, and drive technology alignment with business objectives. This is a hands-on, influential leadership role focused on developing teams and ensuring engineering best practices, scalability, and modernization.
- Main Responsibilities:
- Shape and deliver the end-to-end engineering strategy to support business and product goals.
- Lead DevOps, Mobile, and QA teams through high-performance, accountability, and technological change.
- Direct senior managers such as the Head of DevOps to maintain alignment across teams.
- Drive legacy system modernization, including migration to scalable, maintainable, cloud-native microservices.
- Push adoption of OpenStack and open infrastructure tools.
- Set engineering standards, governance, and best practices.
- Oversee the full software lifecycle, CI/CD, automated testing, and advanced deployment methods like blue-green and canary releases.
- Champion microservices architecture and domain-driven design.
- Ensure high scalability and system performance for growing workloads.
- Define and implement system scaling, load balancing, and optimization strategies.
- Promote AI-based development tools such as Copilot, Claude, and Cursor.
- Collaborate closely with DevOps for reliable, automated infrastructure.
- Oversee architectural decisions for distributed and microservices environments.
- Monitor and report on key engineering KPIs including deployment frequency, lead time, MTTR, and change failure rate.
- Maintain strong communication within engineering, product, QA, and DevOps teams.
- Lead recruitment, mentoring, and development of engineering leadership and senior engineers.
- Manage team capacity planning, prioritization, and strategic resource allocation.
- Embed security, compliance, and reliability throughout engineering processes.
- Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years in software engineering, including significant technical leadership.
- History of managing DevOps, QA, and/or Platform teams at a senior level.
- Experience modernizing and migrating legacy environments.
- Expertise in distributed systems, microservices, and system scalability.
- Strong skills with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Advanced knowledge of CI/CD, automated testing, and varied deployment techniques.
- Proven ability to establish engineering standards and governance frameworks.
- Experienced with Copilot, Claude, or Cursor for AI-assisted development.
- Proficient in C#, .NET, Python, Go, or Java.
- Strong understanding of OpenStack and open-source infrastructure solutions.
- Cloud platform and core infrastructure knowledge.
- Solid software engineering and QA best practice background.
- Skilled in building and scaling large engineering teams and complex systems.
- Excellent leadership and communication abilities.
- Good grasp of SLOs, SLIs, error budgets, and reliability engineering.
- Familiar with DevSecOps practices and modern security standards.
- Knowledge of both SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Systems thinker, able to clarify complex environments.
- Proven success in high-scale, fast-paced settings.
- Cost-optimization experience is a plus.
