JOB SUMMARY:
FNP/PA treating patients in a rural medical clinic
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The FNP/PA serves as a primary or secondary provider in our medical clinic, collaborating with physicians, nurses, medical assistants, and community health resources. They are responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, ensuring continuity of care, and promoting health promotion and disease prevention.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Patient Assessment & Care: Obtain health histories, perform physical exams, and develop diagnosis and treatment plans in accordance with clinical guidelines.
- Diagnostic & Therapeutic Actions: Order and interpret lab tests, x-rays, and other diagnostics; write prescriptions; make referrals as needed.
- Treatment & Follow-Up: Provide direct patient care (often 7-9 patients per 4-hour shift), manage follow-up, and ensure continuity of care across providers and agencies.
- Health Education: Counsel patients and families on physical and developmental well-being; identify and connect them to community health resources.
- Team Collaboration: Consult with physicians and other providers; delegate appropriate tasks to support staff; participate in staff and quality improvement meetings.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely, and complete electronic health records careers.
- Quality Improvement: Engage in peer chart reviews, performance evaluations, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Continuing Education: Participate in required training (e.g., Life Support Training) to maintain licensure and scope of practice.
