DEPARTMENT: Workshop Structural Repairs

 

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

 

To carry out structural repairs to all shipping containers.

 

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

 

1. Carry out major structural repairs to shipping containers.

2. Supervise assistant, report to supervisor and safer working practices.

3. Tool, equipment, structures maintenance.

4. Observation and reporting.

5. Safety and cleanliness in work and stores area.

6. Assistant supervision and training.

 

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

 

Note: The following list of Key Performance Areas and job activities are not exhaustive. Independent Container Repairs (Pty) Ltd may instruct the employee at any time to carry out additional duties or responsibilities, which fall reasonably within the ambit of the job, or in accordance with operational requirements.

 

1. Carry out major structural repairs to shipping containers.

• Reading and understanding of Job Cards.
• Welding CO2 & Arc
• Flame Cutting
• Form Work
• Masonry work
• Insulation and lamination
• Measuring and cutting
• Painting / spray
• Grinding
• Re-alignment of containers to (ISO) standard
• Reporting to supervisor, scheduled daily reporting of production hours.
• Supervisor does quality control inspection of completed work.

 

1. Supervise assistant, report to supervisor and safer working practices.

• Hand tools, electric hand tool, oxygen & acetylene, Mig and stick welding, hydraulic porter power, block & tackle ECT. to be used and stored in a safe manner and place
• Incumbent awareness and acknowledgement of Risk Assessments pertaining to their operation. Supervisor, fellow staff members and safety reps. oversight.

 

1. Tool, equipment, structures maintenance

• Inspections and repairs to tools, equipment, structures and plant after use

daily.

• Quarterly tools and equipment stock take scheduled reporting to depot managers.

 

1. Observation and reporting

• During the repair process to check for hidden defects, improper repair, and miss-quotes. Reporting to supervisor
• Self-retrospection and reporting to supervisor

 

1. Safety and cleanliness in work and stores area

• Safety and cleanliness in the work and stores area is the duty of all staff.
• Health and safety reps, fellow employees and supervisors.

 

1. Assistant supervision and training

• Supervised and trains an assistant to determine future promotion possibilities for the assistant
• Monthly reporting to the Dept supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

Grade `12 / Matric

The following experience is preferable:

• Good Welding skills
• Power tool proficient use,
• Hand tools proficient use

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.Ability to write simple correspondence.

 

 

 

REASONING ABILITY:

 

Basic Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

 

This is due to the nature of the workshop operation, equipment and heavy moving container handling machinery.
