As a Software Engineer at Applied Materials, you’ll dive deep into ground-breaking technologies—like machine learning and AI—to craft novel software solutions that solve our customers’ high-value problems. Our Software Engineers are responsible for designing, prototyping, developing, and debugging software solutions for semiconductor equipment components and devices to ensure quality and functionality. You'll develop software documentation and test procedures, troubleshoot software problems, and communicate with internal customers to understand project requirements. As part of our team, you'll contribute your expertise in intricate systems, deciphering code, and anticipating software behaviors to ensure Applied remains the leader in the semiconductor and display sectors.

 

 

Product Owner:

This position is within the process diagnostics and control (PDC) group and is responsible for defining, prioritizing, and driving LINK data products and AI-enabled solutions from concept through field deployment. The role acts as the bridge between customers, field application teams, Product Management, R&D, Algorithms, and tool business units.

What You’ll Do

Product Strategy & Roadmap

• Translate customer needs, Voice of Customer (VoC), competitive insights, and field learnings into product requirements.
• Define and prioritize product backlog and roadmap.
• Drive feature prioritization balancing customer demand, product quality, reliability, and technical debt.

Product Requirements & Execution

• Own epics, features, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
• Work closely with architects, software engineering, QA, and algorithm teams throughout the development lifecycle.
• Participate in PI planning, backlog grooming, sprint reviews, and release planning.
• Ensure requirements are clear, testable, and customer focused.

Customer Success & Field Engagement

• Act as escalation point for strategic customer requirements and product gaps.
• Work with field application engineers and customers to validate solutions.
• Convert customer pain points into roadmap initiatives.
• Support beta programs, early adopters, and key field deployments

Cross Functional Leadership

• Drive alignment among Product Management, R&D, QA, Algorithms, Applications, Marketing, and Tool teams.
• Lead product reviews, design discussions, and roadmap reviews.

What You Bring

• Master’s / Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, VLSI, or a related field
• 9+ years of experience in semiconductor process and defectivity, with hands-on knowledge of CAD and design-based inspection concepts
• Comfort with GenAI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot) for code generation, debugging, and documentation
• Willingness to travel ~30% to leading fabs globally
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams
• Excellent communication skills — equally effective with customers, field teams, and R&D engineers
