Job Summary
Highly motivated individual with an interest in women’s health and/or health research. Under the supervision of Dr. Lori Brotto (Primary Supervisor) and Dr. Roberta Galizia (Study Coordinator), the Research Assistant will support Dr. Galizia with The Couples’ Desire Study and contribute to a range of research and project coordination activities. Responsibilities will include supporting participant communication, including sending questionnaires, distributing updated consent forms, and coordinating the collection of mailing addresses for compensation. This is the highest priority task followed by the other secondary items, as time permits. Secondary tasks include: data cleaning and preparation, supporting the dyadic couple sexual response model study, adapting manuscripts to meet specific journal submission requirements, and monitoring grant timelines and preparing required materials. Participant-related responsibilities will include distributing updated consent forms and coordinating the collection of mailing addresses for compensation.

 

This part-time, hourly position provides a flexible work schedule.

Organizational Status
The Research Assistant will work under the supervision of Dr. Lori Brotto (Primary Supervisor) and Dr. Roberta Galizia (Study Coordinator).

As needed, the Research Assistant will receive orientation and guidance from the supervisors on research procedures and on working within a randomized controlled study.

In accordance with UBC’s hybrid work guidelines, this position offers a flexible work environment that includes both remote work and onsite work at the Gordon and Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre.

Work Performed
The Research Assistant will work with UBC Sexual Health Research (SHR), primarily supporting The Couples’ Desire Study. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Supporting participant communication, including sending questionnaires, distributing updated consent forms, and coordinating the collection of mailing addresses for compensation. This is the highest priority task followed by the other secondary items, as time permits.
• Supporting data cleaning and preparation;
• Contributing to the dyadic couple sexual response model study;
• Adapting manuscripts to meet specific journal submission requirements;
• Monitoring grant timelines and preparing required materials.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Research Assistant is expected to perform professionally, make proper and sound decisions, and must be able to exercise judgment and tact. Errors in judgment could lead to lost productivity and missed deadlines.

Supervision Received

Direct supervision and review of tasks and performance will be carried out by Dr. Lori Brotto. The Research Assistant will work independently with regular check-ins with the study coordinator (Dr. Roberta Galizia) and weekly team meetings with other members of the SHR team.

Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities
• Proficiency with Canva, Qualtrics, Microsoft Excel, and SPSS
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in research-related tasks
• Experience with digital and social media platforms, including TikTok, X, Instagram, and Facebook, is an asset, particularly for supporting potential study-related events and outreach activities
• Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
