Job Description:

Our platform combines portfolio management, trading, technology, and service capabilities to help independent financial advisors deliver personalized investment experiences at scale. Through disciplined investment operations and a focus on client outcomes, we help advisors streamline their practices, manage portfolios efficiently, and support clients in pursuing their financial goals.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Portfolio Trader to join our Trade Operations team. This role supports the accurate and timely generation, review, and execution of portfolio-level trades in accordance with client mandates, model strategies, portfolio objectives, tax-aware trading guidelines, and documented operating procedures.

The Portfolio Trader will evaluate trading activity, identify exceptions or risks, coordinate resolution with internal partners, and help ensure trade-related tasks are completed accurately and within required service levels.

The successful candidate will combine investment operations knowledge with sound judgment, strong attention to detail, and a continuous-improvement mindset. This is an opportunity to contribute directly to reliable trade execution, stronger operational controls, scalable processes, and positive outcomes for advisors and their clients.

We can consider candidates for this position who are able to accommodate a hybrid work schedule and are close to our Charlotte, NC office.

Responsibilities:

  • Review portfolio and account information to identify trade requirements related to portfolio drift, model changes, tax-aware trading, cash management, scheduled activity, and approved client or advisor requests.

  • Generate, review, and execute portfolio-level trades in accordance with investment guidelines, client restrictions, model allocations, tax considerations, and established Trade Operations procedures.

  • Support scheduled and event-driven trading activity, including dollar-cost averaging, withdrawals, tax harvesting, corporate action activity, model changes, rebalancing, and other approved portfolio updates.

  • Validate trade instructions, account eligibility, restrictions, cash requirements, quantities, and expected outcomes before releasing activity for execution.

  • Perform post-trade reviews and reconciliations to confirm that activity was completed accurately and that exceptions, breaks, or unexpected results are identified and escalated promptly.

  • Investigate trading exceptions and operational issues, determine the appropriate resolution path, and collaborate with Trade Production, Trade Execution, Portfolio Management, Client Service, and other partners as needed.

  • Respond to internal client-facing teams with clear, timely, and well-supported explanations regarding trade activity, portfolio impacts, processing status, and operational requirements.

  • Maintain accurate records and supporting documentation for trade decisions, exception resolution, account activity, and other operational tasks in accordance with applicable procedures and controls.

  • Identify process gaps, recurring errors, manual dependencies, and control weaknesses, and recommend practical improvements that strengthen accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.

  • Use operational metrics, dashboards, and reporting to monitor workflow performance, identify trends and outliers, and support fact-based improvements to trade execution and service delivery.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of clear SOPs, job aids, process documentation, and training materials for consistent execution across onshore and offshore teams.

  • Partner with team members and cross-functional stakeholders to standardize workflows, improve handoffs, reduce rework, and support effective implementation of approved process changes.

  • Follow all applicable policies, procedures, risk standards, and supervisory controls; escalate issues when activity falls outside established guidelines or operational capacity.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of portfolio construction, model-based investing, rebalancing, cash management, tax-aware trading, and investment operations workflows.

  • Demonstrated ability to review detailed information, apply documented guidelines, identify exceptions, and make sound decisions under time-sensitive conditions.

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills, with the ability to connect trading activity to portfolio and client outcomes.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain trade rationale, processing requirements, and exceptions to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Proactive and collaborative approach to resolving issues, improving processes, and supporting team performance.

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, market-oriented environment while managing competing priorities and required service levels.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field.

  • 2-5 years of experience in portfolio trading, investment operations, portfolio management, wealth management, or a related financial services role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with portfolio management, rebalancing, or trading platforms such as Vestmark, InvestCloud, BlackRock Aladdin, or similar systems.

  • Experience supporting managed accounts, model portfolios, tax-aware trading, or advisor-directed investment workflows.

  • Familiarity with Salesforce or similar case and workflow management applications.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including filters, formulas, pivot tables, and data validation.

  • Experience using operational reporting, dashboards, or workflow metrics to identify trends and improve process performance.

  • Experience documenting procedures, delivering peer training, or supporting process standardization across distributed teams.
