Description
As a Security Officer, you will serve as the face and voice of Irving Oil, helping to maintain a safe and secure environment for employees, customers, visitors, and facilities across various Saint John locations. Your goal will be to provide exceptional security support while ensuring the safety of people, property, and operations in a 24/7 environment. Your success will be measured by your ability to maintain a strong safety and security mindset, deliver excellent customer service, work collaboratively with others, and adapt to different locations and situations while upholding Irving Oil's safety and security standards.
This is considered a safety sensitive position, and as such, our recruiting process involves pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, references, and a criminal background check.
Kindly note that this is a temporary opportunity offering a 3-month fixed term contract anticipated to last until mid-November. Additionally, our security team operates a 24/7 schedule with 12-hour shifts (days, nights, weekends, holidays); therefore, your shift may vary with notice.

Your Responsibilities:
- Welcome all visitors, employees, and customers to Irving Oil facilities by greeting them in person or on the telephone
- Maintain a visible presence at all times, ensuring the highest standards of safety and security are met
- Dispatch security team members, facilities personnel, and internal medical staff during any emergency incident or event
- Enforce and govern the Facility Access Policy for all people entering our facilities
- Be a primary point of contact for all levels of the business
- Handle requests, feedback, and queries professionally and in a timely manner
- Issue temporary ID passes to visitors, contractors, and employees (if required) and ensure they are returned at the end of the day or completion of work
- Contact all appropriate emergency services and diligently report any incidents directly to the Security Operations Center
- Prevent and discourage all unapproved or unlawful entry to the site(s) and engage other security team members when necessary
Your Skills:
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to diffuse conflict and de-escalate situations in a professional manner
- Able to deal with difficult or unforeseen issues quickly and professionally by answering questions or transferring to appropriate parties when necessary
- Able to remain calm; quickly and efficiently respond to any emergency situations by working with the Security Operations Center (SOC)
- Be well versed in security protocols and procedures
- Actively contribute towards a safe and secure culture, while engaging employees and visitors to so they have a good experience when on-site
Your Experience:
- Minimum High School diploma or G.E.D. required
- Must possess a valid Canadian drivers license
- Graduate of a Criminal Justice or Police Foundations program is an asset
- Current First Aid certification is an asset
The expected hourly rate for this position is $21.67 - $22.34. Placement within range will be based on relevant experience, qualifications, and skills.
