Job Summary:

The Director of Religious and Spiritual Life (RSL) and Protestant Chaplain is a student-centered, creative, and strategic leader who provides direction for spiritual and religious well-being of our campus community. The Director serves as one of the many faces and voices of religious and spiritual life in university gatherings, ceremonies, and occasions that call for prayer and spiritual support and guidance. The Director is responsible for meeting the needs of all faiths by supporting a wide spectrum of religious traditions on campus, fostering dialogue about social justice, and overseeing religious organizations that seek university recognition. Key responsibilities of the Director include engaging in outreach to students, providing pastoral care, leading the Rooke Congregation, serving as Protestant Chaplain, strategic planning, coordinates interfaith opportunities, executes multi-faith programs, and the administration of the professional and support staff, budget, and facilities.

Job Duties:

  • This role reports to the Assistant Vice President, Equity & Inclusive Excellence 
     

 Work Setting/Schedule:  

  • On campus student facing role

  • This is a full-time role at 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

What You Will Do:

  • Provides pastoral care for individuals, groups, and at key campus moments.

  • Manages the fiscal and budgetary process for the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life. Develops and maintains assessment and evaluation tools. Utilizes emergent data to improve and expand services, educational opportunities, and to inform stakeholders knowledge of Religious & Spiritual Life.

  • Coordinates and executes Ecumenical Christian community in Rooke Chapel.

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of comprehensive interfaith and multi-faith programs that champion the religious and spiritual needs of our students.

  • Provides opportunity to explore meaning and purpose and collaborates with a network of professionals as a member of the leadership team in Equity & Inclusive Excellence.

  • Serves as a consultant and strategist for faculty and administrative departments on matters related to Religious & Spiritual Life, Student Affairs and Equity & Inclusive Excellence. Leads and facilitates learning and development for students, faculty, and staff. 

  • Provides institutional and community specific crisis management.

  • Supervise and inspire the staff in Religious and Spiritual Life with direct authority to make decisions regarding hiring, disciplinary action and staff performance.

  • Oversee the following vibrant communities and facilities: Berelson Center for Jewish Life, Fellowship House for Protestant Life, Muslim Community Center, Newman House, Rooke Chapel, and the Meditation Chapel.

What You Will Bring:

Required: 

  • Master of Divinity or equivalent graduate degree

  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience

  • Ordination or similar credentialing in a Protestant religious tradition

Knowledge Areas and Skills for the role:

  • Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing, and assessing programs

  • Demonstrated experience with inter-religious work in the context of serving your adults

  • Dedicated commitment to student growth and development

  • Ability to work collaboratively and successfully across cultures and styles at all levels of the organization

  • Experience ministering in a multicultural and multidenominational contexts

  • Progressively responsible experience leading, managing and supervising professionals

  • Successful experience with preaching and pastoral abilities, leading worship services, retreats, educational workshops, or other related experiences

Preferred Requirements:

  • Doctoral or terminal degree in related field

  • Demonstrated experience leading, managing and supervising religious life professionals

  • Working knowledge of liberal arts institutions and student affairs

  • Six (6) or more years of experience with inter-religious work in the context of serving your adults, preferable in higher education environment

Salary Range:

80,000.00-100,000.00

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy. 

This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship, all candidates must be authorized to work in the US without a need for current or future visa sponsorship.
