Make a Difference
Networks Product and Technology - Fixed Engineering designs, builds, operates and improves all of Telstra’s fixed line network infrastructure – the physical and logical systems that deliver home broadband, enterprise connectivity and wholesale network services.
Key Responsibilities
This is how you’ll bring the purpose of your role to life.
Configure, deploy, and maintain jumphost platforms (e.g., MobBOSS, Shared Boss) that provide secure access and operational tooling for network environments
Support the implementation of security controls and remediations, ensuring alignment with enterprise cyber security standards (e.g., MFA, access control, hardening)
Execute platform lifecycle activities, including:
Build and onboarding of new environments
Patch management and upgrades
Decommissioning of legacy infrastructure
Assist in delivering key platform initiatives such as:
Jumphost rebuild and modernisation
Security uplift across shared and domain-specific environments
Ensure secure connectivity and access management for network devices:
SSH/telnet access control
Configuration backup and network tooling support
Monitor and troubleshoot network, platform, and access issues impacting management services environments
Support operational activities, including incident response, root cause analysis, and service restoration.
Collaborate with:
Cyber Security teams for compliance and risk mitigation
Identity and access teams for authentication and access models
Network and platform teams for integrated service delivery
Maintain and build expertise on Telstra’s networks and products, technologies, and operating systems.
Develop and maintain standard and best practice deployment documentation and reference material.
Work in a DevOps environment.
About you
To be successful in the role, you'll bring skills and experience in:
Essential
A degree in Network/Telecommunications/Systems Engineering and previous experience in network engineering roles with a minimum of 5 years' work experience.
Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (IP, routing, DNS, firewalls) and enterprise network environments (e.g., CMN, RDN, EDN concepts)
Strong knowledge of security standards and frameworks, with the ability to translate them into practical controls, drive best practices, and proactively identify and remediate gaps across enterprise environments.
Experienced in SNMP v2/v3 discovery, with the ability to capture and maintain accurate inventory data, ensuring data integrity and continuity across network environments.
Proven experience in:
Supporting jumphost / bastion host platforms
Network access and operational support systems
Integrating jumphost/ bastion host platforms with MFA.
System Administration:
Linux system administration (RHEL/CentOS preferred)
User access management, SSH configuration, and privilege control
Server patching, OS hardening, and security baseline enforcement
System performance monitoring and troubleshooting
Log management and analysis (syslog, system logs)
Backup and restore processes for system and configuration data
Experience working in a high-performing DevOps team.
Knowledge of:
Network security and access control (SSH, LDAP, MFA concepts)
Security compliance and remediation practices
Experience with:
Scripting (bash, Python)
Troubleshooting across network and infrastructure layers
Understanding of:
System and platform lifecycle management
High availability and operational resilience
Strong understanding and experience in Telstra Change Management practices.
Highly desirable
Exposure to:
Virtualised environments (e.g., VMware) and hosting platforms
Identity and Access Management (IAM) or privileged access systems
Operating Citrix CVAD environments and administering NetScaler/ADC for application delivery, traffic management, and performance troubleshooting
Familiarity with:
Network monitoring and observability tools
Automation tools (e.g., Ansible)
Experience in:
Telecom or large-scale enterprise network environments
Security uplift or infrastructure modernisation initiatives
API & Integration Capabilities for Network Automation
Experience designing and integrating APIs within Network as a Service (NaaS) platforms
Ability to develop and manage RESTful APIs for network automation and service integration
Experience integrating APIs across identity platforms, network/security services, and orchestration workflows
Understanding of API security principles, including authentication and authorization mechanisms
Ability to troubleshoot and support API driven integrations in enterprise environments.
