POSITION SPECIFICS

The Animal Science Department in the College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State is seeking a Horse Farm Manager. The position will be responsible for daily care and management of a herd of 70+ horses used for teaching, research and extension programs.

Specific duties include:

  • Work with faculty coordinator and veterinarian to manage the breeding program which include semen collection, processing and shipment, breeding mares.

  • Direct and supervise one full time farm technician position.

  • Hire, train and supervise several part time student employees.

  • Assist faculty with preparation and presentation of various classes and labs.

  • Assist with equine research and extension programming.

Required Qualifications:

  • Three years of equine and farm management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • The ability to communicate effectively with staff and students is necessary.

  • Basic computer and record keeping skills required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in animal or equine science is preferred.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $54,060.00 - $78,444.00.
