A DAY IN THE LIFE

The Buyer administers the end-to-end purchasing cycle of materials and/or equipment including planning & executing purchase orders, determining transport for these orders on/off the job site, executing lease agreements, expediting materials/equipment and resolving quality and invoice issues.  Ensures equipment & materials land at the lowest total cost consistent with considerations of quality, reliability of source, and urgency of need. Partners with Sourcing team to build and leverage category strategies and manages supplier performance. Responsible for the tactical purchasing activities of assigned commodities while establishing and maintaining excellent vendor/customer relationships.

STEP INTO THE ROLE

  • Plans, generates, adjusts and expedites purchase orders based upon field requisitions, project insights, interpretation of drawing take-offs, BOMs/BOEs and inventory strategies.
  • Tracks and monitors purchase orders, keeping informed of any problems or delays and communicates any impacts or constraints to the Planner and Project Manager.
  • Maintains day-to-day communication with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery, system data integrity, and ordering parameters for individual materials. Communicates site access map to supplier along with all relevant transport and communication information.
  • Controls assets at suppliers, disposing of obsolete assets and monitoring the age of others.
  • Analyzes and maintains data in the system(s) including cost, lot sizes, reorder points, lead-times, safety stock, and item classes to ensure accuracy of data.
  • Identifies material/equipment at risk and makes recommendations for expedited supply, change in supplier, or transportation alternatives to reconcile supply gap.
  • Plans and executes RFx’s for items now within a strategy or category plan using discretion and best judgement. Determine best course of action to support business need at the right cost, right quality and right timing, negotiating pricing and terms.
  • Analyzes and determines rules for inventory and replenishment plans that meet supply service levels.
  • Contacts vendors/suppliers on discrepancies with quantity, quality and deliveries – supporting possible warranty and relationship issues.
  • Interfaces with multiple departments, recommends changes and resolves problems and issues with material and purchasing needs.
  • Uses sourcing solutions to continuously improve the value, quality and service received within the assigned spend areas.
  • Communicates supplier changes regarding pricing and availability affecting high impact materials to supply chain management.
  • Manages project tracking page to provide supplier delivery information to project team.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Associate degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance or related field required; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. APICS or other certification preferred.
  • One year of experience in purchasing, planning or related Supply Chain function.
  • Understands the sourcing strategies and terms and conditions with each supplier, and the commodity markets for which you support.
  • Strategic, analytical, organizational and negotiating skills with the ability to engage others as necessary to resolve issues.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills across all levels of leadership- both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated initiative, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Organizational and prioritization skills with a high commitment to meeting schedules and the ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
  • Strong time management and organizing skills and operates with a sense of urgency and distributes time sensitive and accurate data.
  • Ability to maintain valid license and acceptable driving record in order to travel as required, up to 25%.

$61,220.00 - $82,309.00 Individual Compensation to be determined based on the applicant's applicable experience and qualifications balanced against internal equity.
