Position Overview
emerjence LLC is seeking an IT Technical Writer to develop clear, accurate, and accessible technical documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences. The IT Technical Writer will gather, analyze, translate, organize, and communicate complex technical information through a variety of documentation and communication products.
The ideal candidate will possess strong writing, editing, research, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate with technical subject matter experts (SMEs) and transform complex information into well-organized, easy-to-understand documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather, analyze, organize, and translate technical information into clear and concise documentation.
- Develop documentation appropriate for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Write, edit, and maintain technical documents, including user manuals, training materials, installation guides, proposals, reports, standard operating procedures, and related documentation.
- Collaborate with technical subject matter experts, developers, engineers, analysts, and program personnel to gather and validate information.
- Translate complex technical concepts, processes, and requirements into understandable written content.
- Review existing technical documentation and identify opportunities to improve accuracy, clarity, organization, and usability.
- Edit and proofread documents for grammar, consistency, formatting, terminology, and technical accuracy.
- Develop and maintain document templates, style standards, and formatting conventions.
- Organize technical content to ensure information is presented logically and can be easily understood by the intended audience.
- Support the development of technical reports, presentations, briefings, and other program deliverables.
- Assist with developing training and instructional materials for systems, applications, processes, and procedures.
- Coordinate document reviews and incorporate feedback from technical teams, management, and client stakeholders.
- Maintain documentation throughout its lifecycle and ensure updates accurately reflect system, process, or requirement changes.
- Support configuration management and version control of technical documentation as required.
- Ensure documentation complies with applicable client, program, and organizational standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant professional experience in technical writing, technical documentation, communications, information technology, or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to gather and translate technical information into clear, concise written materials.
- Experience developing or supporting technical documentation such as user manuals, training materials, guides, proposals, or reports.
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and organizational skills.
- Ability to understand technical concepts and communicate them effectively to different audiences.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality documentation.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with technical subject matter experts and other stakeholders.
- Proficiency with common document creation, editing, and presentation tools.
- Ability to manage multiple documentation assignments and meet established deadlines.
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting federal government IT programs or contracts.
- Experience developing IT-related user guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), training materials, technical reports, or system documentation.
- Experience working directly with technical subject matter experts to develop documentation.
- Familiarity with document management, configuration management, and version-control processes.
- Experience supporting proposal development and technical report preparation.
- Ability to interpret technical requirements, system information, diagrams, and processes and translate them into understandable documentation.
- Experience developing documentation for both technical and executive-level audiences.
- Strong formatting, document organization, and quality-control skills.
