Description

The Facilities Coordinator is responsible for maintaining Cornell Cooperative Extension of Columbia and Greene Counties offices and properties, including cleaning, groundskeeping, routine maintenance, and basic repairs. The Coordinator also assists with vehicle maintenance and helps maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for staff, volunteers, participants, and the public. The Coordinator works cooperatively and professionally with staff, volunteers, participants, and the public.

This position provides facilities support at two CCE Columbia Greene locations based on operational needs and as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of related experience or an Associate’s degree in a related field.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Experience with large-acreage grounds maintenance, including zero-turn mowing and snowplowing.

  • Experience with painting, light carpentry, and basic plumbing maintenance.

  • Knowledge of building, grounds, cleaning, and basic mechanical systems and repairs.

  • Ability to safely operate lawn, grounds, and snow-removal equipment.

  • Ability to help maintain a welcoming environment for all.

  • Ability to meet regular travel requirements associated with this position. A valid NYS driver's license with the ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, as needed, including for snow removal and other facility needs.

  • Ability to read instructions, write basic reports, and communicate positively with staff, volunteers, and others.

  • Basic computer skills, including email, calendars, and internet-based systems.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks with supervisor guidance.

Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, sanitizing, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, and other general cleaning duties. Lift, move, and transport materials, equipment, landscaping waste, and other items. Frequently bend, reach, kneel, climb stairs and ladders, and use hands to perform cleaning, painting, maintenance, and groundskeeping tasks. Operate equipment such as lawn mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, shovels, and snow blowers. Work around moving and vibrating mechanical equipment. Work in environments with moderate to loud noise levels when operating equipment. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for the task, such as hearing and eye protection and gloves.

Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Administrative Responsibilities:

Direction and Management – 10%

  • Assist with overall facilities management and identify and report facility issues.

  • Serve as the after-hours contact for building and grounds emergencies.

  • Maintain facility, equipment, and grounds records and maintenance schedules.

  • Assist with coordinating maintenance, contractors, and outside vendors.

  • Attend Facilities Committee meetings as assigned.

Coordination and Operation – 85%

  • Perform seasonal grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, weed whacking, and snow and ice removal.

  • Clean and maintain restrooms, lounges, and meeting rooms; restock paper products, soap, and other supplies; and empty recycling bins as needed.

  • Perform minor maintenance and repairs, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, roofing, flooring, and painting. Report major problems or repairs to the supervisor.

  • Maintain tools, equipment, supplies, storage areas, and sheds.

  • Assist with ordering, picking up, and delivering supplies and equipment, including transporting items to the Taste NY Market located at the Capital District Welcome Center in New Baltimore.

  • Set up and break down meeting rooms, including tables, chairs, and cleaning, based on room booking schedules. Work with the supervisor and staff to ensure buildings and grounds are ready for programs and events.

  • Open and close buildings as needed for rentals and storage, and check facilities after use for damage or other issues.

  • Assist with maintaining Association vehicles, including scheduling routine maintenance and inspections, checking fluid levels, and cleaning vehicles as needed.

  • Safely operate Association vehicles, grounds equipment, and other job-related equipment.

Professional Improvement – 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.

  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
