In this position...

Ford's Test Laboratory Engineering teams are seeking detail-oriented, self-motivated Facility Engineers to support multiple laboratory locations – Engine Lab (ELD) and Emissions lab (APTL). In this role, you will lead the successful and timely delivery of critical facility systems and complex technical support required for emissions, powertrain, and engine research/development/component testing. This is a dynamic position bridging hands-on engineering design, systems troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced laboratory environment. These positions will range from a Ford Salary Grade 6 – 8.

What you'll do...

  • Facilities & Mechanical Systems Engineering
  • Direct and manage the design, installation, maintenance, and application of facility support systems required for emissions, powertrain, and engine dynamometer/component testing.
  • Design and develop facility layouts and specialized equipment to support powertrain and test cell product development teams.
  • Diagnose complex facility and equipment issues, manage routine maintenance, and implement system enhancements.
  • Proactively identify and execute facility and operational efficiency improvements, optimizing new systems to maximize test efficiency and minimize energy consumption.
  • Project & Documentation Management
  • Prepare mechanical/electrical system specifications, project timing plans, and Bills of Materials for test cell and facility systems.
  • Serve as a technical resource for design, cost estimating, and scheduling of equipment installation projects.
  • Assure accurate completion of new or modified systems documentation and drawings; conduct training and safety reviews.
  • Deliver on department financial objectives through prudent project and resource management.
  • Manage additional engineering projects and assignments as required to support corporate goals.

Collaboration & Relationship Management

  • Partner closely with UAW skilled trades teams (millwrights, electricians, HVAC/AC operations, pipefitters) and lab teams, and Ford Land to resolve facility issues and maximize operational uptime, and support installation, modification, and commissioning of equipment.
  • Interact with external partners (e.g. Architectural & Engineer, Construction Management) on new equipment installation projects.
  • Interface with Safety, Environmental Quality Office, and corresponding vendors/suppliers to maintain building and environmental requirements.
  • Leverage external suppliers to deliver cost-effective, high-quality, and timely resolution to technical problems.

This position is a salary grade 6 and ranges from $74,300-$124,500

This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $86,600-$144,900

This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $99,100-$166,200.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.

Position Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent engineering discipline.
  • Working knowledge of internal fluid flow mechanics, thermal-fluid sciences, and basic heat transfer properties.
  • Background in Plant or Facilities Engineering.
  • Experience writing and generating detailed technical equipment specifications.
  • Ability to read and manipulate AutoCAD files to prepare mechanical system HVAC/piping drawings.
  • Strong technical leadership, organization, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Hands-on experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and safety control systems; working knowledge of LabVIEW.
  • Strong data analysis skills, including working knowledge of statistics and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Knowledge of ammonia/CO2 cascade refrigeration systems.
