Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity and bringing your whole self to work — and we have an insatiable drive to do what others think is impossible. Northrop Grumman’s Legal and Contracts Department has a unique opportunity for a senior attorney to join its global Investigations Team. This attorney will report to the Assistant General Counsel and Director, Investigations, located in Falls Church, VA. We seek a self-motivated attorney who will direct and conduct significant independent investigations, manage the company’s response to government investigations and subpoenas, provide analysis of complex and varied issues, and supervise outside counsel. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys problem solving, is excited about working on a range of matters and who maintains a high level of intellectual curiosity. Experience at the Department of Justice (including as an Assistant U.S. Attorney), the Department of Defense, or an enforcement agency is helpful but not required.

  • Leading independent investigations and responses to government investigations and subpoenas
  • Performing investigations autonomously or, where appropriate, supervising the work of outside counsel or internal personnel
  • In complex, significant, and sensitive matters, taking responsibility for all aspects of an investigation, including risk assessment, fact gathering, analysis, counseling, and recommending any corrective actions
  • Interacting and negotiating with, and responding to requests from, representatives of government agencies
  • Partnering and collaborating with other stakeholders to develop, enhance, and apply guidance and protocols for conducting investigations, reporting, and company interactions with government agencies on investigation-related issues
  • Advising management and employees concerning risk assessment and mitigation relating to various business activities undertaken by the corporation, including compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws and regulations

We are seeking a candidate with the following background:

  • Highly motivated individual with exceptional judgment, analytical skills, sense of accountability, integrity, and a record of leading sensitive and complex investigations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ethical leader with the ability to engage and motivate others and who encourages collaboration and teamwork
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills, responsiveness, and a demonstrated ability to balance multiple competing priorities

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, J.D., and active Bar status
  • At least 10 years of relevant legal experience with substantial knowledge of, and experience conducting, investigations
  • Exceptional integrity, analytical skills, and judgment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance as a condition of continued employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the Department of Justice (including as an Assistant U.S. Attorney), the Department of Defense, or an enforcement agency
  • Previous in-house experience, especially with a corporation of comparable size and complexity to Northrop Grumman
  • Experience working with outside counsel to direct activities
  • Previous experience with government contract law and/or the Department of Defense
  • Active US Government Security clearance
