Job SummaryThe Internal Medicine Residency Program is seeking an academically oriented, board-certified Internal Medicine Physician to join as core faculty. This position offers a balanced combination of clinical practice, resident education, and academic involvement. Approximately 90% of the role is dedicated to clinical responsibilities, including supervising residents in the outpatient clinic and providing direct patient care through a private clinic panel. The specific balance between resident supervision and independent patient care will be determined in collaboration with the Program Director based on clinic staffing needs. The remaining 10% of the role involves administrative and academic duties such as participating in resident interviews, engaging in faculty development, attending program meetings, mentoring residents, delivering academic lectures, and contributing to scholarly activity. Opportunities for clinical research are also available for candidates interested in academic advancement.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Supervising residents in the outpatient resident GME clinic
- Private Clinic
- Coordinate individual outpatient care
- Manage acute and chronic illnesses including cardiac, respiratory, GI, infectious and skin issues
- Demonstrate a commitment to equitable patient care
- Conduct resident interviews
- Serve on program evaluation committee and clinical competency committee
- Participate in Mentorship Program
- Create and give academic lectures
- Participate in scholar activity
- Participate in one hospital committee
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education, Experience and Qualifications
Required:
- MD/DO
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred:
- Dedication toward furthering the field of hospital medicine through their scholarly and teaching experiences
- Additional year of training in advanced General Internal Medicine (Chief Resident equivalent) or significant inpatient practice experience
License and/or Certifications
Required:
- Board Certification: ABIM or AOBIM
Preferred:
- American Heart ACLS/BLS
- Licensed in the state of Virginia
