Bilingual Incentive Pay is 7.5% above the Office Assistant II base salary.

What Will You Do: Under direct or general supervision, provides a variety of general clerical support activities, which may include word processing, data entry and organization, receipt of payments, telephone and counter reception, record keeping, report preparation, and filing.  Provides information and assistance to the general public.  This is an unrepresented position that is employed by the Tehama County In-Home Supportive Services Public Authority.

As An Office Assistant II You Will Have The Opportunity To: 

  • Perform a variety of clerical work including maintaining accurate and detailed records, verifying accuracy of information, researching discrepancies, and recording information based on established regulations and procedures accurate and detailed records.

  • Verifies and reviews forms and reports for completeness and conformance with established regulations and procedures.

  • Prepares, copies, and distributes a variety of documents, including agendas, bid packages, internal reports, contracts, vouchers, educational materials, and specifications ensures proper filing of copies in departmental or central files.

  • Composes, types, formats, and proofreads a wide variety of reports, letters, and memoranda both manually and with automated word processing and spreadsheet software types from rough drafts, verbal instructions, or transcribing machine recordings checks drafts for punctuation, spelling, and grammar suggests corrections to drafts.

  • Screens calls, visitors, and mail responds to complaints and requests for information assists in explaining and applying regulations, policies, procedures, systems, rules, and precedents in response to inquiries and complaints from public assists in scheduling and set-up of appointments obtains information from the public provides referrals to the general public directs callers to appropriate County staff as necessary.

  • Receives, opens, time stamps, sorts, and distributes incoming and interdepartmental mail prepares, meters, and distributes outgoing mail.

  • Bilingual Candidates: Translate, interpret and otherwise communicate with members of the Spanish speaking community.

Controversial Issues: As an Office Assistant, you may encounter customers who are emotionally charged; customers that have substance dependence, mental health, trauma or domestic violence history. You may be assisting customers whose values may conflict with your own values. An Office Assistant must be able to accept customers' differences and interact with them in a non-judgmental manner.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
  • One (1) year of office support experience involving customer service and contact with the public or higher-level coursework in office or business practices. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

License & Special Requirements:

  • A valid California Class C driver’s license or alternative form of transportation may be required for some positions at the time of appointment.  Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Current, less than 1 year old, typing certificate.
  • Bilingual Candidates:
    • Must pass a written and/or oral bilingual proficiency test (or another appropriate test selected by the County) to qualify.

The department is currently recruiting for one (1) vacancy.

In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Public Authority Office Assistant II or a Public Authority Office Assistant II - Bilingual, as well as subsequent vacancies, which occur during the life of the eligibility list.


New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.
