Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Psychologist to join our psychology team within a multidisciplinary drug and alcohol treatment service.

The psychology team provides a direct clinical offer for people experiencing substance use difficulties alongside co-occurring mental health needs. In addition, the team plays a key role in supporting the wider service through the development of psychosocial interventions, psychological consultation, staff support, training, reflective practice, and collaborative working with local mental health services.

Working under the supervision of a HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based psychological care. The role will include undertaking psychological assessments and facilitating therapeutic groups, such as our Managing Emotions Group.

We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who is confident engaging with people from diverse backgrounds and facilitating group-based interventions. You will also have strong organisational abilities, attention to detail, and confidence working with service data and reporting systems.

Alongside clinical work, you will play an important role in supporting the ongoing development of the psychology team and its contribution to the service. This will involve coordinating and completing projects, collecting and analysing data, supporting service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives, and helping to develop and implement psychologically informed approaches across the service.

Our national Psychology Team provides connection, peer support, reflective practice, and CPD. Our Assistant Psychologists meet regularly, and we offer support in applying for further training.  We embrace diversity, equality and inclusion as evidenced by our commitment to building a team with a variety of backgrounds, skills, and views. We strive to nurture a culture where inclusiveness is a way of being, not an initiative. We are looking for someone who is compassionate, organised, proactive, and enthusiastic about working within a trauma-informed framework.

Our values are to be Compassionate, Open and Bold.

Does this sound like you? If so, please read the job description and we look forward to receiving your application.

For an informal discussion, please contact Mary Walker, Principal Clinical Psychologist ([email protected]).

What we will give to you:

  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Several benefits incl. discounts for shopping, cinema, holidays, etc.
  • A friendly and supportive team
  • Training, career development & progression opportunities
  • Generous Refer-a-Friend Scheme

A note about using AI in your application

AI can be a really helpful tool when putting together your application, and we're happy for you to use it. However, what we're most interested in is you.

We want to understand your experiences, achievements and strengths, so please make sure your application reflects your own story and clearly shows how you meet the essential criteria and the impact you've made in previous roles.

There's no need to write in a particular style. The strongest applications are those that are authentic, specific and clearly demonstrate your skills, experience and potential. We look forward to learning more about you.

Direct applications only — we will not be engaging agencies for this vacancy.

Please note: This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK at the time of application. For applicants with time-limited visas, unfortunately, we are unable to support new visa applications or extensions.
