About this opportunity:
Cenovus is seeking a Senior Data & IT (D&IT) Business Office Advisor to support the financial management, governance, and value realization of D&IT investments. This office-based role will provide financial modeling, business case support, total cost of ownership analysis, forecasting, allocation/showback support, and executive-ready reporting across D&IT initiatives and G&A costs. Reporting to the Acting Senior Manager - D&IT Business Office and Process Governance, the role is an individual contributor position that leads through influence and partners closely with D&IT, Finance, Business Services, project delivery teams, and business leaders. The successful candidate will bring strong financial discipline, SAP experience, project exposure, business case rigor, and the ability to translate financial and portfolio insights into practical recommendations that improve decision quality and business value.
What you’ll do:
Provide financial management support across planning, budgeting, financial modeling, multi-year forecasting, cost estimating, accruals, journal entries, and ongoing investment tracking for D&IT initiatives and G&A costs.
Develop, review, and steward business case information from opportunity identification through implementation, maintaining traceability of assumptions, risks, decisions, total cost of ownership, costs, benefits, and expected value.
Apply economic and investment analysis, including NPV, IRR, payback, scenario/sensitivity analysis, ROI narratives, and cost/benefit analysis to support needs analysis, approvals, portfolio prioritization, and benefits realization tracking.
Use SAP and related financial data to interpret cost structures, commitments/actuals, reporting outputs, allocation/showback information, and financial trends that support accurate budgeting, forecasting, and decision making.
Produce executive-level reporting and governance materials for demand intake, triage, stage gates, steering or working committee reviews, portfolio updates, and investment decision records.
Partner with D&IT, Finance, Business Services, project delivery teams, business leaders, and other stakeholders to consolidate requirements, translate them into D&IT deliverables, and improve value management, reporting consistency, process alignment, and governance quality.
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
Legally authorized to work in Canada.
Post-secondary degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Commerce, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
8+ years of experience spanning financial management, business case development, portfolio management, project governance, strategy execution, or technology investment analysis.
Strong financial background with demonstrated experience in planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, cost estimating, benefits realization, and executive reporting.
Strong SAP experience, including the ability to interpret SAP financial data, cost structures, commitments/actuals, and reporting outputs to support decision making.
Experience with total cost of ownership, business cases, project costing, benefits analysis, economic modeling, NPV, IRR, payback, sensitivity/scenario analysis, and ROI narratives.
Strong communication, storytelling, stakeholder engagement, facilitation, negotiation, influencing, and consensus-building skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced cross-functional environment while managing multiple priorities and applying pragmatic, value-focused governance.
We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.
