Description
Provides administrative support to the Police Accountability Board and Administrative Charging Committee. Prepares agendas and minutes and loads into Diligent. Assists paralegals and attorneys with preparing and filing municipal infractions and other legal documentation.
The hiring salary for this position is $52,874 annually; full salary range for this position is $52,874 - $91,042 annually.- Provides administrative support to the Police Accountability Board (PAB) and the Administrative Charging Committee (ACC);
- Prepares agenda and meeting minutes for the PAB and ACC;
- Posts approved minutes to the boards and commissions website;
- Prepares reports for PAB and ACC;
- Attends all meetings of the PAB and ACC;
- Interacts professionally with members of the public by providing information, explaining procedures, responding to inquiries, and addressing concerns in a timely and courteous manner;
- Maintains and handles confidential records and documentation;
- Maintains databases and database files;
- Prepares legal documentation related to municipal infractions issued for violations of various County Ordinances;
- Facilitates service of municipal infraction citations on defendants in violation of various Ordinances on behalf of various Departments;
- Scans and files pleadings electronically via the Maryland Electronics Courts (MDEC) on-line filing website;
- Composes and prepares legal documents for assigned attorneys;
- Schedules attorney's appointments and maintains appointment calendar;
- Coordinates and ensures proper notification of witness subpoenas for County employees;
- Assists with the processing and fulfillment of Public Information Act (PIA) requests in accordance with applicable requirements and statutory timelines;
- Provides backup administrative support to the Ethics Commission as needed;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ability to gain thorough knowledge of St. Mary's County Government policies and procedures;
- Ability to effectively communicate with other staff, attorneys, victims, witnesses, and the public in a courteous manner;
- Ability to learn and use MDEC (Maryland Electronic Courts);
- Ability to make decisions in accordance with established laws and guidelines, and to apply departmental policies to daily work problems;
- Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions;
- Ability to work independently on tasks and maintain records;
- Ability to plan, organize, and execute continuing assignments accurately, with minimum instruction or review;
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records;
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all matters pertaining to the department;
- Ability to use Clio case management software;
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Zoom;
- Effective business English, grammar, legal terminology, and math skills.
- Associates degree preferred;
- Two years or more of related experience;
- Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Work requires no unusual demand for physical effort.
Work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations, which require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g., aggressive human behavior, or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled.

- Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
