As a Sr. Environmental Services Technician, you will help maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety at the Henry Ford Detroit Pistons Performance Center (PPC) and the Detroit Pistons Player Locker Room at Little Caesars Arena (LCA). This hands-on role works closely with Environmental Services leadership and provides day-to-day guidance, coaching, and support to Environmental Services technicians.
What You'll Be Doing
- Work under the direction of the EVS Supervisor and EVS Manager to maintain clean, sanitary, and well-organized environments throughout the PPC and designated LCA Player Locker Room areas.
- Perform daily cleaning and sanitation responsibilities alongside the Environmental Services team.
- Demonstrate and reinforce proper cleaning techniques, productivity expectations, safety procedures, and Pistons EVS Standard Operating Procedures.
- Provide hands-on coaching, guidance, and mentorship to EVS technicians.
- Take ownership of assigned specialty areas and ensure established cleaning standards are consistently maintained.
- Support the onboarding and cross-training of new Environmental Services team members.
- Assist EVS leadership with coordinating daily assignments, operational priorities, and team workflow.
- Help monitor cleaning quality and promptly report areas requiring additional attention or corrective action.
- Serve as Acting Supervisor when designated and EVS leadership is unavailable.
- Clean and disinfect restroom surfaces, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, walls, doors, and floors, and restock supplies as needed.
- Empty trash receptacles, replace liners, and safely operate the trash compactor.
- Clean offices, conference rooms, and administrative spaces in accordance with Pistons EVS Standard Operating Procedures.
- Maintain the PPC practice courts in accordance with established facility cleaning protocols.
- Perform detailed cleaning and maintenance of player and coaches’ locker rooms, weight rooms, saunas, steam rooms, and other specialty areas.
- Dust mop, sweep, mop, and vacuum floors, and safely operate auto-scrubbers and other floor-care equipment.
- Clean stairwells and elevators, including high and low dusting and stainless-steel polishing.
- Support cleaning and facility operations for events held at the PPC.
- Follow all applicable OSHA requirements, workplace safety standards, and departmental procedures.
- Perform onsite linen laundering operations at the PPC.
- Assist with facility and event conversions, including setting up and removing tables, chairs, court coverings, and other event-related equipment.
- Travel to Little Caesars Arena following Detroit Pistons games to perform postgame cleaning of the Player Locker Room.
- Consistently represent and promote Detroit Pistons culture and organizational values.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in environmental services, custodial operations, housekeeping, or facility maintenance.
- Demonstrated ability to lead by example and support the training and development of team members.
- Knowledge of cleaning procedures, sanitation standards, workplace safety practices, and commercial cleaning equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with team members and leadership.
- Positive, dependable, and team-oriented attitude.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, event-driven environment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and Pistons game and event schedules.
- Ability to travel between the Pistons Performance Center and Little Caesars Arena as operationally required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain standing and walking for extended periods.
- Ability to regularly bend, reach, kneel, crouch, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to safely operate commercial cleaning and floor-care equipment.
- Ability to work around cleaning products and in varying facility environments.
