The MPG-FA Project Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting active energy generation projects, including Wind, Solar, Battery Energy Storage, and Combustion Turbine developments. Working under the guidance of experienced project professionals, the intern will assist with project coordination, data collection, reporting, and construction support activities.
This position is designed to develop technical and project management knowledge through exposure to all phases of project execution. The intern will split time between the office and active construction sites, providing opportunities to observe field activities, interact with project teams, and develop an understanding of utility-scale energy infrastructure projects.
Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
• Support project teams with project tracking, reporting, and documentation.
• Participate in field visits to active construction sites to observe project execution and safety practices.
• Collaborate with project managers, coordinators, engineers, and contractors.
• Learn project development and construction processes for wind, solar, battery storage, and combustion turbine facilities.
• Complete assigned tasks under supervision while following established procedures and safety requirements.
This position is for a May 31, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.
Minimum Requirements:
- Current student, Junior or higher (as of Fall 2027)
- Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering
- Travel will be expected if projects are in construction
- Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (16 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.
