Third Shift Production Supervisor – Manufacturing
Location: West Chicago, IL
Shift: Third Shift, 9pm-5:30am, Sunday to Thursday
Job Summary
We are hiring an experienced Production Supervisor to lead third-shift manufacturing operations at a mattress manufacturing facility in West Chicago, IL.
This position is responsible for overseeing daily production activities while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, productivity, housekeeping, employee performance, and customer satisfaction. The Production Supervisor will lead production associates, leads, material handlers, and other assigned team members while ensuring production goals and operational requirements are met.
What You’ll Do
- Lead daily third-shift manufacturing operations and ensure production schedules are met.
- Supervise, coach, and develop production employees and team leads.
- Conduct shift meetings and communicate production priorities and expectations.
- Monitor hourly production performance and take corrective action when goals are not met.
- Coordinate staffing and employee assignments to maximize productivity.
- Manage production flow through mattress assembly, packaging, staging, and shipping preparation.
- Enforce safety policies, PPE requirements, and safe operating procedures.
- Investigate accidents, near misses, and unsafe working conditions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe manufacturing environment.
- Ensure products meet customer specifications and quality standards.
- Investigate quality issues and work with Quality and Engineering teams on corrective actions.
- Monitor attendance and employee performance and assist with corrective action when needed.
- Support employee training, cross-training, onboarding, and skill development.
- Drive continuous improvement, waste reduction, and productivity initiatives.
- Support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and root-cause analysis activities.
- Monitor labor utilization, production efficiency, material usage, and other key performance metrics.
- Coordinate with Warehouse, Planning, and Maintenance teams to maintain uninterrupted production.
- Communicate equipment issues to Maintenance and assist with minimizing downtime.
- Complete production reports, attendance records, shift communication logs, and performance documentation.
- Provide shift performance updates during operational meetings.
What We’re Looking For
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least 3 years of manufacturing leadership experience.
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing production teams in a fast-paced manufacturing operation.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to frequently walk, stand, bend, and climb throughout manufacturing areas.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work around manufacturing equipment, moving machinery, forklifts, and material-handling equipment.
- Ability to work extended hours as operational needs require.
Work Environment
This position works primarily in a manufacturing and warehouse environment. The role may involve exposure to noise, moving mechanical equipment, forklifts, varying temperatures, and production-related hazards. Required PPE must be worn.
