Role Title
Associate Actuary, Corporate ActuarialPurpose of role
The Associate Actuary is a key member of the Corporate Actuarial valuation team, supporting the Appointed Actuary function across quarterly valuation reporting, earnings analysis, regulatory filings, audit support, and actuarial model governance. This role will help coordinate core valuation deliverables, translate actuarial results into clear business messages, and strengthen the team’s documentation, controls, and backup coverage for recurring reporting processes.The role is intended to reflect the breadth of work currently performed within the valuation team, including MD&A and actuarial update analysis, AAR and OSFI reporting support, IFRS 17 experience and earnings diagnostics, valuation model implementation, dividend review analysis, and coordination with Finance, Risk, Product Actuarial, ALM, Audit, and other stakeholders.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and support quarterly valuation reporting deliverables, including close-cycle analysis, management reporting, and review materials for the Appointed Actuary
- Support MD&A, AAR, OSFI Life return, financial statement note analysis, and other regulatory or management reporting requirements
- Lead or support detailed valuation model implementation, validation, and testing for new business, product changes, dividend scale changes, reinsurance arrangements, and assumption or methodology updates
- Strengthen actuarial process documentation, controls, evidence retention, and review practices consistent with professional standards, internal control requirements, audit expectations and review needs
- Support valuation model governance activities, including AXIS / Risk Integrity model changes, data reconciliations, model vetting, production readiness, and documentation of key assumptions and limitations
- Provide coaching, review, and development support to actuarial analysts, interns, or co-op students involved in valuation reporting and model-related work
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, automation, documentation across valuation and reporting processes
Key Qualifications
- Recently qualified FCIA/FSA Actuary with relevant experience in life insurance experience
- Familiarity with Canadian valuation, IFRS17 and capital requirements and regulations; exposure to U.S. or other jurisdictional reporting is an asset
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to connect valuation results, experience analysis, and business drivers into practical insights
- Strong experience with actuarial modelling and reporting tools, including AXIS, Risk Integrity, DataLink, Excel, and VBA; experience with automation, Power BI, Databricks, or other data tools is an asset
- Excellent report writing and communications skills, with the ability to explain technical actuarial issues to both actuarial and non-actuarial stakeholders
- Knowledge of life insurance, annuities, participating products, final expense / non-medical business, segregated funds, and reinsurance is an asset
- Interest and ability to coach junior actuarial staff and support a collaborative, learning-oriented team environment

Salary Range:
$105,000.00 - $140,000.00
The actual base salary for this position will depend on several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and education. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may participate in a discretionary variable incentive plan, results are subject to both individual and company performance.
