Position Summary...

The Senior Manager, Environmental Stewardship leads strategy, compliance, and execution for producer responsibility programs across Canada. This role is accountable for the Canadian Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Blue Box program and Canadian eco-fee programs, ensuring full regulatory compliance while driving cost efficiency, operational excellence, and cross-functional alignment.

 

 

What you'll do...

Oversee end-to-end governance and execution of the Canadian EPR Blue Box program, including registration, reporting, payment, audit readiness, and policy compliance.

Lead administration and compliance for Canadian eco-fee programs across applicable product categories and provinces.

Interpret federal and provincial regulatory requirements and convert them into practical business processes, controls, and compliance calendars.

Own program data integrity, including SKU mapping, material classifications, fee calculations, and supporting documentation.

Partner with merchandising, legal, finance, supply chain, packaging, and IT teams to ensure accurate data capture and timely reporting.

Develop and maintain internal controls, SOPs, and governance routines that support auditability and reduce compliance risk.

Manage relationships with Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs), regulators, industry associations, and external advisors.

Monitor legislative changes and assess business impact, including proactive recommendations for risk mitigation and process changes.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize program costs and improve reporting efficiency.

Prepare executive updates that summarize compliance status, financial exposure, upcoming regulatory changes, and strategic recommendations.

Manage a team of associates in the applicable areas

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, Public Policy, Business, or related discipline (Master's degree preferred).

6 to 8 years of relevant experience in environmental compliance, producer responsibility, sustainability operations, or regulatory programs.

Demonstrated experience managing Canadian EPR and/or eco-fee compliance programs.

Strong understanding of provincial stewardship frameworks, Blue Box obligations, and eco-fee methodologies.

Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives in a complex, matrixed organization.

Strong analytical and financial acumen with the ability to validate data and interpret fee impacts.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level reporting.

High attention to detail and strong project management capabilities.

Preferred Experience

Experience working with retailers, consumer goods, packaging-intensive industries, or producer organizations.

Exposure to environmental data systems, reporting automation, and dashboarding tools.

Experience supporting internal and external compliance audits.

The pay range for this position is $109,400.00 - $150,480.00. Pay will be determined based on relevant experience.
