Receiver

Summary

The Receiver is responsible for accurately and safely receiving, inspecting, staging all incoming materials that support manufacturing, including structural steel and plate, purchased components, load cells and instrumentation, hardware, and outside-processed parts. This role is the first checkpoint for material accuracy and quality entering the plant and is expected to maintain the receiving dock and staging areas to the plant's 5S standard as a visible example for the rest of the facility.

Essential Job Duties

• Receive and unload incoming shipments of raw steel, plate, structural material, purchased components (load cells, junction boxes, indicators, electronic assemblies), hardware, and outside-processed parts (machining, coating, plating) via truck, using a forklift, overhead crane, or pallet jack as appropriate.
• Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, and bills of lading for accurate quantity, part number, and description; immediately document and report discrepancies, shortages, or damage to the Shipping Supervisor and Purchasing.
• Inspect received materials for visible damage, defects, or nonconformance; route items requiring quality documentation (mill certs for structural steel, calibration certs for load cells and instrumentation) to Quality before releasing material to stock or production.
• Accurately enter receiving transactions into the ERP/inventory system, including quantities, storage locations, and heat/lot numbers where traceability is required.
• Label, tag, and stage received material in its designated location per the plant's 5S standard, keeping aisles, crane travel paths, and staging zones clear and organized at all times.
• Safely operate a forklift and/or overhead crane to move heavy plate, structural steel, and large components; follow rigging and load-securement procedures for oversized or heavy items.
• Coordinate with Purchasing, Production, and Quality to resolve receiving discrepancies, expedite shortages, and communicate material availability for scheduled jobs.
• Maintain accurate, organized records of receiving documentation (bills of lading, packing slips, certifications) to support traceability and audit requirements.
• Participate in cycle counts and physical inventories as scheduled.
• Maintain the receiving dock and staging areas to the plant's 5S standard - sorted, organized, clean, and reset at the end of every shift.
• Follow all safety procedures for material handling, rigging, and PPE use, including proper handling and documentation (SDS access) for hazardous materials received, such as welding gases and chemicals.
• Assist with outbound shipment staging or backup shipping duties as needed.
• And any other duties as directed by management.

Required Qualifications - Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. (Additional requirements may be designated by position.)

• Education - High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 1 year of experience in a receiving, warehouse, or materials-handling role; experience with heavy or oversized materials in a manufacturing/industrial environment strongly preferred.
• Valid forklift certification, or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire; overhead crane and rigging experience preferred.
• Basic computer proficiency, including experience with an ERP or inventory management system.
• Ability to read and interpret packing slips, bills of lading, purchase orders, and basic material specifications.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and material verification.
• Basic math skills for counting, measuring, and verifying quantities.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with Purchasing, Quality, and Production.

• Ability to read part prints.
• Ability to use a tape measure, calipers, and micrometers.
• Demonstrated competency in using computers, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint)

• Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.

Work Environment - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

• General factory and receiving dock conditions, with exposure to high noise levels, variable temperatures, and uneven terrain.
• Work is performed at the receiving dock and material staging areas, which may involve brief outdoor exposure while receiving truck deliveries.
• This is an in-person role and is not eligible for remote work.

• Ability to wear required PPE including but not limited to: Steel/Safety toed boots with metatarsal guards, safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, work gloves
• Extended periods of standing and walking, occasionally sitting.
• Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling materials up to 50 pounds frequently.
• Required to use vision and be able to focus near and distance constantly.
• Required to hear and talk constantly such as hear safety or hazard alarms and talk directly to others and use phone/other approved communication devices
• Frequently required to climb ladders and steps, bend at the knee and waist, crouch, stoop, and reach overhead
• Must have able to have repetitive wrist, hand and finger dexterity, and hand-eye coordination to control buttons, knobs, levers, cranks, pedals, for use on computer station/kiosk, telephone, and related office equipment, and handle paper documents.
• Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
