CLIENT SUMMARY
Our client is a Leading Indigenous Provider of Engineering, Procurement, Construction & Operations & Maintenance (EPCOM) Services.
JOB PURPOSE
- The ASNT Certified NDT Level II Technician is responsible for carrying out, interpreting, and reporting Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities on fabricated components, piping, structural assemblies, pressure-containing equipment, welds, and other critical assets within the fabrication yard.
- The role ensures that fabrication and welding activities comply with approved drawings, project specifications, applicable codes and standards, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), client requirements, and applicable NDT procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. NDT Inspection & Testing
- Perform NDT examinations in accordance with approved procedures and applicable codes and standards.
- Conduct NDT examinations using applicable techniques, including:
- Visual Testing (VT)
- Dye/Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT/LPT)
- Magnetic Particle Testing (MT/MPI)
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
- Radiographic Testing (RT), where qualified, authorized and appropriately controlled.
- Identify, evaluate and classify indications/discontinuities in welds, materials and fabricated components.
- Verify weld integrity at various stages of fabrication and repair.
- Carry out examination of butt welds, fillet welds, structural members, piping, pressure vessels, flanges, nozzles and other fabricated items as applicable.
- Ensure proper preparation and cleanliness of test surfaces before examination.
- Select appropriate NDT techniques based on material, weld configuration, thickness, accessibility and project requirements.
- Verify that NDT equipment is suitable, calibrated and fit for use before commencing examination.
B. Interpretation & Evaluation
- Interpret NDT results in accordance with approved procedures, acceptance criteria and applicable standards.
- Evaluate indications against relevant acceptance/rejection criteria.
- Identify defective or non-conforming welds and components.
- Recommend repair, re-examination or further investigation where required.
- Ensure that only qualified and acceptable components proceed to the next stage of fabrication.
C. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare accurate NDT reports, examination records and inspection documentation.
- Maintain traceability of weld numbers, welder identification, material identification, test locations and NDT results.
- Ensure all NDT results are properly documented and submitted for QC/client review.
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity of inspection records.
D. Quality Control & Fabrication Support
- Work closely with Welding Inspectors, QC Inspectors, Welding Engineers, Fabrication Supervisors and Project Engineers.
- Participate in weld inspection and fabrication quality-control activities.
- Review fabrication drawings, weld maps, procedures and ITP requirements relevant to NDT activities.
- Confirm that required NDT examinations are performed at the appropriate fabrication stage.
- Support monitoring of weld repair rates and recurring weld defects.
- Participate in quality surveillance and inspection activities during fabrication.
- Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) where applicable and support corrective actions.
E. Standards & Compliance
- Ensure NDT activities comply with applicable international codes, standards, and project specifications, such as: ASME, API, AWS, ISO, ASTM, Client/project specifications, Approved NDT procedures, and ITPs.
- Maintain current knowledge of NDT techniques, standards and industry practices.
- Ensure NDT activities are conducted within the scope of the individual's certification and authorization.
- Comply with all company Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental (QHSE) requirements.
CANDIDATE’S PROFILE / QUALIFICATION and BACKGROUND
Minimum
- OND/HND/B.Sc. in Engineering, Science, Metallurgy, Welding Technology or a related discipline; or relevant technical qualification.
- Valid ASNT NDT Level II certification in the applicable method(s).
- Certification should cover the NDT methods required for the project, preferably:
- UT Level II
- MT Level II
- PT Level II
- VT Level II
- RT Level II, where applicable.
- Certification in accordance with ASNT SNT-TC-1A or applicable employer/client certification scheme.
4. Experience
- Minimum 5 -7years' relevant experience in NDT inspection, preferably within Oil & Gas, petrochemical, marine, construction or heavy fabrication environments.
- Proven experience in an Oil & Gas fabrication yard is highly desirable.
- Experience inspecting carbon steel, stainless steel and other commonly used fabrication materials.
- Experience with piping, structural steel, pressure-containing components and welded assemblies.
- Experience working with client/third-party inspectors and maintaining inspection documentation.
- Practical knowledge of weld defects, welding processes and fabrication practices.
