The Role and Why It's Important
Our Dishroom Clerks are the backbone of a clean, safe, and well-run kitchen. In this role, you'll keep equipment, dishes, utensils, and the work area spotless so the rest of the team can focus on delivering great food and service to every customer.

What You'll Do
No two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:
Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and making every interaction a positive one
Wash department equipment, utensils, dishes, pots, and pans thoroughly and consistently
Handle food safely and ensure the work area is always clean and neat
Remove trash in a timely manner and take department garbage to the compactor or designated area
Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who call
Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned
Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines
Report to work when scheduled and on time
Your Skills
To be successful, you'll need to be able to:
Follow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks with a few concrete variables
Perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately
Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing
Work effectively as part of a team to keep the kitchen clean and running smoothly
Reporting Relationships
Accountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home; Food Service Manager; Market Grille Department Manager; Assistant Market Grille Department Manager
Education and Experience
No education requirement; six months or less of similar or related work experience preferred
Physical Requirements
Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties
Working Environment
This role is performed in a kitchen environment where you will be on your feet throughout your shift. You will have exposure to noise, equipment movement hazards, cleaning chemicals or solvents, temperature extremes, and possible electrical hazards. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
