Description
Water Safety Instructors (WSI) instruct swimming and water safety skills while providing a safe environment for participants.
- Know, understand, follow, and enforce all program policies, rules, regulations, and Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
- Prevent and respond to emergencies according to certification level.
- Instruct courses for ages 6 months to adults according to the curriculum and standards of Aquatics Program.
- Provide a safe environment for participants.
- Be familiar with skills and passing criteria at each level of the aquatics swim lesson program, assess and evaluate skills of students, provide feedback, prepare and execute lesson plans.
- Motivate, guide, and inspire students to help them reach their goals while providing a fun and educational atmosphere.
- Maintain a positive relationship with and effectively communicate with co-workers.
- Maintain a professional appearance and communicate with patrons and parents in a professional manner.
- Direct, guide, instruct, and evaluate instructor aids according to their responsibilities and class needs.
- Administer first aid.
- Complete all required paperwork and reports, including attendance records, report cards, and incident reports
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Be at least 16 years of age.
- Possess current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification or equivalent in experience.
- Possess American Red Cross CPR/FA/AED Certification.
- Stand for extended periods.
- Observe all areas of the pool and patron activity.
- Hear noises and distress signals.
- Communicate effectively in normal, loud, and stressful situations.
- Move and/or lift materials and/or equipment.
- Support child and/or adult body weight in the water.
- Perform effective swimming strokes and rescue skills and assist with removing adult bodyweight from the pool.
