Description
The City of Roanoke is seeking a Recreation Program Leader to be responsible for planning, implementing, leading and facilitating; aquatics, fitness, wellness, trips and tours, arts and culture programming.
The successful candidate would be responsible for performing specialized work as it pertains to fitness and movement, lifelong wellness, arts, leisure and aquatic operations, supervision of aquatic staff and administrative paperwork.
Work will be performed under the general supervision of a full-time Recreation Supervisor and/or Coordinator. Applicants must obtain valid certificate in ARC Lifeguard training within 6 months of being hired; standard First Aid, CPR for Professional Rescuer required.
Work will be daytime, some evenings and weekends.

This position is non exempt.SUMMARY
Responsible for planning, implementing, leading and facilitating aquatics, fitness and wellness programming. The ability to follow and supervise performance of rescue techniques and emergency care procedures and ability to perform all pool maintenance procedures correctly required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.- Plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates recreation programs and activities in aquatics, fitness, wellness, arts and culture, leisure, trips, and tours.
- Leads and facilitates recreation programs and provides instruction, guidance, and customer service to program participants.
- Supervises aquatic and/or recreation staff, including assigning and monitoring work, providing training and feedback, and addressing routine performance and operational concerns.
- Supports the safe and effective operation of aquatic and recreation facilities by enforcing safety procedures, responding to emergencies, and ensuring compliance with applicable policies and standards.
- Performs administrative duties associated with recreation programming and facility operations, including scheduling, recordkeeping, reports, attendance, incident documentation, and other program-related paperwork.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Will supervise a small staff.Minimum requirements include any combination of education and experience equivalent to two (2) years of college with emphasis on recreation program planning and implementation, as well as possession of a valid driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
