Position Summary
The Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) is responsible for leading and continuously enhancing Lennar Mortgage's Compliance Management System (CMS) to ensure adherence to applicable federal and state mortgage banking laws, regulations, investor requirements, and internal policies. The CCO serves as a strategic business partner to executive leadership by leveraging regulatory expertise, technology, data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and process automation to proactively identify and mitigate compliance risk.
This role oversees licensing and regulatory examination activities, drives a culture of compliance through effective training and communication, and ensures the organization maintains operational excellence while adapting to an evolving regulatory and technological landscape.
The Chief Compliance Officer reports to the Chief Risk & Legal Officer and leads a team of compliance professionals responsible for monitoring, testing, licensing, training, regulatory change management, fair lending, advertising compliance, and other compliance advisory functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Compliance Leadership & Strategy
- Lead and maintain an enterprise-wide Compliance Management System consistent with CFPB expectations and mortgage industry best practices.
- Serve as the principal compliance advisor to executive management on regulatory developments, emerging risks, regulatory expectations, and business initiatives.
- Partner with Legal, Operations, IT, Information Security, Marketing, Servicing, Secondary Marketing, and Production leadership to evaluate compliance implications of strategic initiatives.
- Develop and maintain compliance risk assessments and reporting frameworks that provide meaningful insights to senior management and the Board.
Regulatory Examinations & Licensing
- Oversee all state and federal regulatory examinations, audits, inquiries, and investigations.
- Serve as the primary executive responsible for examination management, regulatory communications, response coordination, remediation planning, and issue resolution.
- Supervise nationwide mortgage licensing and registration activities, ensuring timely renewals, reporting, change management, and regulatory filings.
- Establish processes to proactively monitor regulatory trends and examination findings impacting the mortgage industry.
AI, Technology & Innovation Leadership
- Evaluate and oversee the compliance implications of artificial intelligence, machine learning, automated decisioning, digital lending platforms, and emerging technologies.
- Partner with technology and business teams to implement AI governance standards, risk assessments, model oversight controls, and responsible AI practices.
- Leverage automation, workflow tools, analytics, and data visualization technologies to improve compliance monitoring, regulatory tracking, and reporting efficiency.
- Champion the use of technology-enabled compliance solutions that increase scalability, accuracy, transparency, and operational effectiveness.
- Stay informed regarding evolving regulatory expectations surrounding AI, privacy, data governance, cybersecurity, and digital financial services.
Monitoring, Testing & Risk Management
- Direct compliance monitoring, testing, and oversight activities across all business channels.
- Identify emerging compliance risks through data analysis, trend monitoring, complaints, audits, examinations, and regulatory developments.
- Ensure timely remediation of compliance findings and oversee corrective action plans.
- Establish key risk indicators (KRIs), dashboards, and management reporting to support informed decision-making.
Training & Culture
- Develop and execute a comprehensive compliance education program for all associates and leaders.
- Ensure training is risk-based, engaging, measurable, and aligned with regulatory developments and organizational priorities.
- Foster a culture of accountability, ethical conduct, and regulatory awareness throughout the organization.
- Provide executive-level training and education regarding emerging compliance, regulatory, technology, and AI-related risks.
- Measure training effectiveness and adjust programs based on examination results, risk assessments, and compliance trends.
Policy Governance & Regulatory Change Management
- Oversee development, maintenance, and implementation of compliance-related policies, standards, and procedures.
- Establish processes to identify, assess, communicate, and implement regulatory and investor changes.
- Ensure compliance requirements are effectively integrated into business processes, technology solutions, and operational controls.
- Lead Compliance Monitoring Committee Meetings.
Executive and Board Reporting
- Prepare and present compliance reporting to executive leadership, management committees, and the Board of Managers.
- Communicate significant compliance risks through risk assessments, regulatory developments, examination outcomes, remediation activities, and strategic priorities.
- Provide clear, data-driven insights to support governance and oversight responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Compliance, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in mortgage banking, financial services compliance, regulatory affairs, risk management, or related functions.
- Demonstrated experience managing state and federal regulatory examinations and licensing programs.
- Strong working knowledge of mortgage lending regulations, including:
- RESPA
- TILA
- ECOA
- FCRA
- HMDA
- SAFE Act
- State mortgage banking laws
- Fair Lending and UDAAP requirements
- Experience developing and delivering enterprise-wide compliance training programs.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing compliance professionals.
- Strong analytical, communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Technology-forward mindset with demonstrated experience implementing compliance-related systems, automation tools, data analytics, or AI-enabled solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree preferred.
- Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) designation preferred.
- Experience with artificial intelligence governance, model risk oversight, responsible AI frameworks, or automated decision systems.
- Experience with mortgage technology platforms, including Encompass and related ICE Mortgage Technology solutions.
- Experience leading compliance programs in a multi-state mortgage lender, bank, or regulated financial institution.
- Experience presenting to executive management and boards of directors.
