BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  • Delivers high-quality advanced prehospital and interfacility transport care to neonatal and pediatric patients, supporting safe stabilization, monitoring, and transport in collaboration with nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, and referring facilities in alignment with ETCH standards and medical direction.

  • Assistant Manager, Critical Care Transport

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Supervisory Responsibilities: NO

Number of Direct Reports: N/A

Minimum Education: High school diploma or GED

Degree: Completion of an accredited Paramedic education program

  • License/Certification Required:

Current Tennessee Paramedic License

BLS, ACLS, and PALS – required

ITLS or PHTLS – Required

NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – required or obtained within 6 months of hire.

S.T.A.B.L.E. - required or obtained within 6 months of hire

C-NPT (Certified - Neonatal Pediatric Transport) - Required within 12 months of hire.

EVOC – Required within 1 month of hire.

Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

Minimum Work Experience:  

Minimum of 2 years of full-time experience as a licensed Paramedic or AEMT in a busy 911 or interfacility ambulance system.

Prior pediatric, neonatal, critical care, or transport experience preferred

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of pediatric and neonatal assessment, airway management, pharmacology, and resuscitation principles

  • Ability to function effectively in high-acuity, high-stress transport environments involving critically ill infants and children

  • Strong interdisciplinary communication and collaboration skills with referring and receiving care teams

  • Proficiency with transport monitors, infusion pumps, ventilators, and electronic patient care documentation systems

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides advanced life support care to neonatal and pediatric patients during emergency and interfacility transports

  • Performs advanced procedures, including but not limited to initial stabilization, advanced airway placement, cricothyrotomy, advanced EKG interpretation and treatment, transcutaneous cardiac pacing, synchronized cardioversion, NG Tube placement, urinary catheter placement, IV/IO vascular access, medication administration, needle decompression, and ongoing patient monitoring.

  • Collaborates closely with transport nurses, medical control, and referring providers to ensure continuity of care.

  • Demonstrates age-specific clinical competencies for neonatal, infant, pediatric, and adolescent patients

  • Operates and assists with ambulance and transport equipment in accordance with ETCH and state safety standards

  • Continuously reassesses patient condition and adjusts interventions based on patient response and medical direction

  • Completes accurate, timely electronic documentation in compliance with hospital, regulatory, and quality standards

  • Participates in equipment checks, restocking, and readiness activities for the Lifeline transport fleet

  • Maintains compliance with ETCH policies, infection prevention standards, and patient safety practices

  • Participates in ongoing education, simulation, skills validation, and quality improvement initiatives

  • Provides family-centered, compassionate care while representing East Tennessee Children’s Hospital professionally

  • Maintains all required licensure, certifications, and competency requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS-Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling is required up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20-30 lbs frequently, and 10lbs constantly to move objects of up to 150 lbs. Sudden emergency situations have the potential for exposure to lifting or moving of up to 150 lbs. Frequent bending, walking, sitting, squatting, reaching, and standing are required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
